Lane Closures
updated: Jul 16, 2012, 8:59 AM

Source: Caltrans

Construction to widen the Hwy. 101 Santa Maria River Bridges will result in overnight lane closures on Thursday, July 19 from 8 pm to 6 am in order to temporarily re-stripe the traffic lanes north and south of the bridge.

Over the next several weeks work will continue on building the new bridge deck including the installation of reinforced steel and the pouring of concrete. Overnight lane closures are expected to occur at that time.

Bicyclists should be aware of limited shoulder space on the bridge at all times during construction. The following detour for bicyclists is recommended. Bicyclists traveling southbound can detour along Thompson Avenue to State Route 166 East to Bull Canyon Road to Donovan Road. Bicyclists traveling northbound can detour along Donovan Road to Bull Canyon Road to State Route 166 West to Thompson Avenue. This project will widen the bridge from two to three lanes in each direction with inside/ outside shoulders and will include a bicycle path near the southbound lanes behind a concrete barrier. In addition, all existing traffic lanes will be resurfaced.

The contractor for this $31 million project is Flatiron West Inc. of Benicia, CA. The project is approximately 50% complete. It is expected to be completed in 2014.
