217 Canal

The Hwy.217 lane closure going out to UCSB and the airport had me curious, so I flew over and then drove
there for pix. From above you can see that it's something to do with the canal banks, both removing the
old sloped concrete banks and installing posts. The posts are those stacks of the long steel I-beam posts
piled along the road, with concrete pads attached to the ends of the beams. A machine drills holes, the
"Mantis" crane lifts them into position, and an orange crane with a round tip pounds them in. Maybe
someone on Edhat knows what will happen once they're all installed. A vertical concrete wall, a new sloped
wall with a different canal width?
