Do You Sudoku? - You can now play the Daily Sudoku on Edhat. How fast can you fill in the blanks? | | July 15, 2012 - Cat of the Week
In Santa Barbara we note with pride that we treat celebrities the same way we treat everyone else. And as long as you are not the Harlem Globetrotters, you can walk down the street without fanfare. Of course, we might have trouble not asking Angelina Jolie if she is pregnant, or mentioning what drink Julia Roberts orders in a local restaurant, but heck, we live in a pretty cool town, and we are not catty people who are blinded by stardom. We are all special, you know.
But one thing that Ed and the dedicated staff have found through the years. While we might be cool and unaffected on the outside, on the inside we want to know the dirt. We are particularly interested if the news involves local celebrities, arrests, and mug shots. How does Ed know this? He looks at the number of hits each story gets. And Ed's access to hit counts is equal to all. It is the number next to each story. We know from these numbers that there is far more interest in celebrities and quirk than there is in traffic accidents and school board meetings. In fact, before we published the article with the "Ladies Love It" tattoo, Jennifer Aniston smoking at the Bacara was one of the all-time top stories on the site! And don't forget all the hoopla caused by the Randy Quaid story. Hey, we don't tell subscribers what to click on. Our goal is to provide interesting choices.
So this week, when local celebrity Cat Cora was arrested for drunk driving, Ed knew that the number next to the story would be high. Through Edhat, we can read about her mistakes and see her pretty mug shot. And if we happen to run into her around town, we can act cool and pretend we don't know her.
The Dogs of the Week are Pinga and Maximus, a Maltese duo; the Cat of the Week is Missy, who always wears a tuxedo; the Non-Profit of the Week is Inspire a Child, which builds soccer fields and classrooms around the world. Edda offers some kind advice, and Nicole's Couch to 5k has found her back on the couch.
