Does anyone know what is going on with Paula Lopez on KEYT 3 news? She seems to have very little on-air time these day. The new girl Shirin Rajaee seems to be taking over the Co-Anchor chair. Don't get me wrong I like Shirin Rajaee but I miss Paula Lopez.

Who watches Key News anyhow? I have lived here for 35 years and EVERY broadcast has at least 2 or 3 ridiculous editing errors or one of the cameramen boggles something. Not to mention the fact that they are like all other televised news and RE-report their stories, and don't do any real investigative stories like they should about our corrupt local politicians. Parroting the Associated Press, that's all. Get REAL news online and stop being lied to or white washed.

She has lost a ton of weight in a very short time. On a similar note, does anyone else find it to be a conflict to have Cam Sanchez's daughter as a permanent anchor on KEYT? She had been working up north, either KCOY or KSBY, can't remember which. Wonder how that will affect objective reporting on police department and leadership.

I can still remember the day I turned on KEYT a bit early to catch the news and someone in the studio had left their mic on -- and was completely trashing my religion. I called the station to let them know that this guy's anti-faith rant was being heard by everyone watching channel 3 and the person on the line didn't quite know what to say . . .

KEYT often has, "local news" stories from everywhere else (Oxnard, Ventura, Lompoc, SM, SLO, etc) BUT Santa Barbara. Sometimes, I watch the Santa Maria news to find out what is going on in SB!

I tape it on the VCR. Then I can buzz right through it in about 10 minutes. I don't understand why they replay the national news during their broadcast. It's obviously to save money. With SBCC's multimedia department, it seems that they could have more local news done by students. That wouldn't cost them anything but supervision time. I wonder if there is a union issue that prevents that.

Shirin might be pretty but she is not very friendly. Sat next to her at an event and she didn't even give me the time of day. Then add to that, that the staff at event were falling all over themselves to give her great service-ignoring the other donating patrons for fund raiser. Please keep Paula who is not only friendly but is a human. More Paula please.

She is in town She is still on most nights but only briefly to cover a special story or out on location which is something the newbies usually do. She is suppose cover the Backyard BBQ segment tonIght. It is almost like she is on probation or something. Hope this isn't another Ann Curry situation.

Ms. Lopez must have changed her, "ways." Years ago, my husband was the delivery guy for a local restaurant. I don't recall the details but she was unhappy with her food and tore my husband a new one. When he returned with her corrections, she continued her tirade of insults at him. She seems so pleasant, "on air" so maybe she was just having a bad day. Even though she treated my husband like her minion, we wish her good health.

I might not like the fact that KEYT seems to focus way too much and too frequently on weather, but I definitely tune in because this is my home town. And why have that backyard barbeque segment without providing recipes? I am not feeling that Paula is on any less. I think she is very professional, a local treasure, and she looks great what ever changes have gone on physically. I got the goods on Paula from her mother-in-law who knows what goes. . . She told me Paula is not only beautiful on the outside, but also on the inside.

I saw a broadcast a couple months ago where Paula was obviously and notably drunk, or showing similar signs of slurred speech and inability to read the teleprompter. I wonder if that has something to do with it? Shirin is interesting. She's hot, but also must have some brains because she is the owner/founder of a radiology clinic in LA called Shicare.

I think Paula was gone for a while and returned somewhat thinner and tighter in the face. I think she had some major work done (bi-pass or its like, face lift) and is easing her way in (or out), and they relied on Shirin while Paula was out and now they kind of job share.And Paula continues to lose weight-

Sharin looks like a Kardasian sister - very beautiful. I miss Steve Stewart. I see him on the Raleigh, NC news when I visit NC. His weather graphics are AMAZING. The KEYT weather graphics have not changed since he left.

Has anyone considered she had lap band surgery or a gastric sleeve? Friend had one and for the first 6 weeks can only eat soft foods and she lost weight fast. She keeps loosing and that is the first thought I had when I saw Paula in a new wardrobe. Wish her the best.

The speculation here is offensive. There's too much weather, and it's not very accurate when it's tricky. There's too little news. I don't care whether it is delivered by someone young or old, male or female. I'd like it to be more professional. I too miss Debby Davidson. Do not ever bring back Phil the Phog Monster. Hire some competent tech people. It may be substandard, but it's the only local TV news we have. If we all lobbied for more professionalism and more news, do you think it would help? (Has it helped in the print world?)

I haven't watched this "crack" news station for a long time. On our many evacutions, we ended up in a motel. Channel 3 signed off as usual. Had to get fire news from stations that actually stayed on all night covering the news.

I really would keep snarky comments to a minimum. Sometimes they are funny, but when you are tearing down a wonderful, beautiful, smart, woman who volunteers a lot of time for this community, it's just mean. She looks great. Thank god no one is critiquing me on a daily basis. Let's focus on people's good qualities. The world would be a better place and this rampant speculation and conjecture is weird and inaccurate.

Met her sweet, proud Dad in front of their house years ago! @681 Christine Kraft received her walking papers and wrote "Too Old, Too Ugly, Not Deferential to Men" after anchoring 2 years. Sharp, talented female broadcast journalists have always faced a tough physical standard.

We are speculating that Paula Lopez gained too much weight and was told she had to lose some. For a long time she wore a lot of black or solid colors. When she wore prints, it made her look a lot heavier. It may be that her contract was winding down. Shirin Rajaee showed up about the same time to train and potentially take her place. Paula's weight change has been great and makes her look like the old Paula - no matter how she had to do it. She will be a lot healthier. As for KEYT in general- it is embarrassing to have such a subpar station servicing Santa Barbara. They make so many mistakes. Giving us the weather 3 times per showing is just pabulum and show filler. We need more investigative, real reporting and less weather.

@944 I disagree. We are all being scrutinized and commented on whether we are aware of it or not- even you. I don't think the comments are rude. Paula is a public figure who has undergone a rather rapid change, and appears to look younger/healthier. That rapid a change does not come from simply altering your eating habits for a month or two. It's natural for people to speculate. In this instance people are just sharing what they've been thinking. Surely you don't want to edit peoples' thoughts, however puerile and annoying they may be to you-

re:295102 I don't have a perfect recollection of it, but I believe Christine Kraft was told she looked like she'd "been rode hard and put away wet" to which she promptly sued KEYT for sexual harrassment (and eventually won a tidy sum in court for it). As for the current KEYT news team: we watch most every night and although we do have a blast making fun of the errors, constant weather updates, lack of real news, and personality quirks of some of them, we LOVE our local news team. They seem like extended family to our household; Paula has that "everyone's favorite sister" quality and Alan epitomizes the ideal "kid brother." There's no need to be caustic in your critique...and go watch KCOY if you don't like them.

Christine Craft was told she was "old, ugly and not deferential enough to men". Those were the days and those were the words, plus the title for her book at the time about this change in gender roles and gender equity that was just emerging in her field as well as many others.

I saw Paula on the Friday night Back Yard BBQ segment and she looks beautiful!!! I hope being back out in the field is her wish and they are not taking away her anchor seat. I love Paula!!! I love our local news. It's very charming in a small town way. I watch it evey night!!!

Going on 20 yrs ago, Palmintieri reported on a surge in the price of gasoline. He was holding up a chart showing before and after prices for several gas stations and their suppliers. The numbers showed that retailers were using a small increase in wholesale prices to justify a big spike in retail prices. Gouging! Price fixing! Right? Nope, Palmintieri simply parroted a story doubtlessly told to him by a retailer (who sized him up right), blaming it all on the wholesalers. But maybe we should be grateful to him for reminding us that local news is full of spin.
