Scanner Reports 7-6-12
updated: Jul 06, 2012, 7:05 AM

By Roger the Scanner Guy

The weekend is here already, although it has felt that way for the past couple days anyway, the 4th being in the middle of the week. I think one of the most unnecessary Fire calls is "Food on the Stove". People still prepare food, place it in a pan, light the burner and leave their home, or just go do something else, forgetting that there is something cooking on the stove. They remember real quick when they get home and their home is gone, or they walk into a burning kitchen. THINK! THINK! THINK! If you're going to cook something, don't leave the room or your home, thinking it will be all done by the time you get back. That kinda cooking can only be done with a CROCK POT.

Here is your Scanner Reports, Wednesday:

  • Illegal Camper in the bushes in the 1300 Block of Olive.
  • One might be very surprised how easily it is for people to fit comfortably into bushes and camp out. You can easily tell if someone has been camping in your bushes, broken branches, trash left around, pieces of cardboard especially, people use the cardboard to sleep on. I have caught several campers in bushes on our property. A lot more people are camping in Mid Town areas of Santa Barbara in the residential areas like the 1300 Block of Olive on up in other residential areas. When I was houseless I used to find bushes to drink and party in. Even a small bush in a busy area can yield enough room for someone to rest comfortably and not be seen. Just in case I ever fall off the wagon I'm not going to tell you where my favorite bushes were.
