Guesses: Country Meat Market. Most other meat markets (Shalhoobs? White Foot? who's still around other than Country?) Most grocery stores with delis.

I used to get it all the time at SB Chicken Ranch, but now find it's cheaper and better to do my own.

I used to like Chicken Ranch, but it's been overcooked the last few times I went there. I won't be going back. Does Woody's sell by the pound?

Cantwell's in Summerland has freshly barbecued tri-tip and chicken on Saturdays - VERY good!

And if you're willing to drive a little, El Rancho Market in Santa Ynez has delicious tri-tip, and a far better hot deli than any place I've found down here in SB.

Stay away from Costco.

@582 no ... they should call it overrated ranch. All of their meat is dry, and their salsa is foamy. No bueno.

Chicken Ranch = Overcooked & bland. Super overrated. You know who has a great tri-tip sandwich? McKenzie Market on upper state next to the Shell gas station. His Greek food is amazing too.

You've gotta do it yourself if you want it to turn out right.

Agree on over cooked at Chicken Ranch. Mackenzie Market makes a fine tri tip and a tasty gyro.

Many thanks to all who gave me referrals on cooked tri tip for sandwiches. I can't believe how good the tri tip at Albertson's in Five Pts. is. And it is inexpensive. They also have carnitas and pretty good chicken. All at the Deli. They told me that the tritip sandwich that they make there for lunch is $2.99!!! Didn't try it but have gone back several times for a lb. of tritip and it makes about 5 sandwiches. I also tried Cantwell's tritip and would have to say it is not good at all----it's really roast beef and not that tasty.
