Food Poisoning

Last night we went to a restaurant for dinner. Two people in our party had the
same dinner (shrimp and vegetables). I had some of the vegetables, but no shrimp,
from their plate. Both of these ladies are into their nineties and came down
with horrible diarrhea early this morning. I called and spoke with the manager
and he was very unsympathetic and thought there wasn't a problem. Is there anyone
else that I should call to report this restaurant? I know that fish can be a
problem and strict storage and cooking rules should be inforced.

First you have to have proof. Just getting sick after eating somewhere doesn't mean you got food poisoning.

SB County Health Dept! Environmental Health or the general number; they'll direct you. Funny, it was late 80's but shrimp is the only thing I ever got sick on, not even oysters.

517 so right. Food poisoning means a trip to the emergency room.

A little more than a year ago I contracted severe food poisoning on the East Coast which I neglected to treat and thus had three nights in the hospital. Upon my return home to SB, the first morning I received a call from SB County Health Department for follow up. It was surprising and pleasing to know they were on the job, vigilant. What with decreased expectations of everything these days, their vigilance was good to know.

Hey-I had diarrhea and some gas a couple nights ago too, so who should I report this travesty to? I ate at a couple different places, so I better report them all. I'm sure some governmental agency will be interested.

OP, are you sure that it was not YOUR contaminated fork that you used to eat vegetables off their plate that got them sick? Did you wash your hands before eating? Did you use a clean fork when taking vegetables from their plate? Was it something on YOUR fork that contaminated their meals that got them sick? Did you sneeze into your hand and not go to the restroom and wash afterwards...my goodness, the possiblilties are endless.

You need to get the offending stool or stomach content tested to track the real cause. Save the evidence is probably the last thing you were thinking about, but if you are going to point the finger in accusation against a particular food and/or establishment you do need proof not just speculation.
