Does anyone know what this animal is? Looks like a mix of a squirrel a fox and a ferret? Just saw this above
Foothill near the 154.

Long-tailed weasel? That's a native species to California.

Face looks more like a ferret than a weasel. The weasel does not have the black mask.

Long-tailed weasel i.d. is correct. How exciting to see this somewhat rare predator. Bet it eats all kinds of rodents. All the more reason we should be protecting/saving what's left of these creatures' habitats.

I saw something very similar at the Douglas preserve awhile back. Thought it was an escaped pet gone feral.

Yes, it's the long tailed weasel, a local native. They can kill and eat a rat larger than themselves.

They are not uncommon, but are rarely seen - elusive.

A ferret is a weasel too. The long tail weasels are sometimes mistaken as a ferret, but they are NOT friendly. The brush tail is a key feature.
