A naugahyde chair inside an Eastside apartment caught fire Tuesday
evening. At about 7:15pm as reported by Roger the Scanner Guy,
residents in an apartment complex in the 400 block of E.Ortega Street
noticed smoke coming from one of the units.
SBFD Engines , 2 and 3, Truck 1 and a Battalion Chief were
dispatched and made quick work of the extinguishing the flames.
It turns out one resident was sleeping in the apartment. Fortunately he
was not asleep on the naugahyde chair that had caught fire. He
escaped uninjured as did another resident in the unit. The situation was
also quite scary for the neighbors in the adjacent apartments, as
burning naugahyde throws off quite a bit of smoke.
After a search of the apartment for any other residents, firefighters took
the chair onto a patio where they doused it with water, limiting water
damage to the inside of the apartment. A stuffed animal on the chair
suffered major burns. The chair appeared to be a total loss.
Also on scene were SBPD and a news team from KEYT, who took a
statement from the Battalion Chief.
