Lost Cell Phone
updated: Jul 02, 2012, 4:01 PM

I lost my cell phone at Linden Field, in Carpinteria while watching the movie in the park last Friday night. For the life of me I can figure out where someone would turn it in if they found it. What are your suggestions?

Call it. If no one answers you'll likely never see it again. If it's a newer iPhone you can use the "Find my iPhone" feature, to located, lock it and/or erase it.

That's a good question! I'm sorry, I don't have an answer, but I just wanted to ask if you've tried calling your lost cell phone to see if someone did find it and might answer it? (You probably have, but it's the only suggestion I could come up with.)

Have you checked Craigslist lost and found section?

When my daughter lost hers, near downtown SB, I contacted the SBPD and it turned out that they did have a lost and found with plenty of cellphones, not hers though. Calling it initially is a good idea so long as it has a decent charge. Got mine back once from the car wash on lower Anacapa via calling and having someone answer it.

Call the police and ask if it's been turned in. That's where an honest person would take it.

Call the Carp State Beach, that's where Linden field is.

Most likely, if whoever found it had any intention of returning it, they'd have called someone on your contacts list to find out who it belonged to...

This is a good time to remind everyone to password protect their cell phones. So if you lose it you only lose equipment, not information.

For the future, list someone under "ICE" ("In Case of Emergency") in your contacts who will know who you are and how to find you. Most people who find things want to return them. It also provides a way to contact others on your behalf in an emergency. That's where I'd look first. Good luck.

Or they might "wipe it," and re-sell it as new.

All suggestions were good about who to contact. It has already been several days and your phone probably has lost its charge. Call your number and check messages. Some finders put their contact info on your phone. Also leave a message on your phone that you are want the finder to return your phone. Can you offer an award? Leave "Lost" messages both on Craigslist and the Independent.

When I found a cell phone in the street, I took it to Verizon. They said they'd be able to locate the owner.
