Did anyone see a dog fight on Tuolumne Drive at 8:30 PM on Thursday? Two dogs ran out from a
house and attacked a dog being walked down the sidewalk on a leash.

I was walking my dog on the Mesa last night and had this exact thing happen to my dog. In the neighborhood near the Douglas Preserve people seem to think it is OK to have your dog just hanging around out front with no leash. We have been charged and attacked numerous times, the owners never seem to care. Is there anything we can do about this? Last night the dog actually ran across the street through traffic to attack our dog. The owner was out there and never even apologized.

I expect the the OP is asking because they want to know what happened. Are the dogs ok? Are the attacking dogs in trouble? Do the owners know each other? If a dog was injured, who is paying for the vet visit? I would be curious too.

Or maybe they walk their own dogs in the area Shoot if I walked my dogs in that area, I would want to know if I should avoid that street.

I'd want to know if that was happening on my street too! My 12 and 13 year old take our little dog on walks down our steet all the time and if there was a hazard, like agressive dogs that had free run, I would want to go with and take my pepper spray!

It's so sad...we have to arm ourselves just to walk our dogs!! Something that is such a joy can turn into a heartbreak in a heartbeat.

I posted about an irresponsible driver in my neighborhood and I mostly received nasty, negative comments. So yes, I have a bit of sand in my shorts with Edhatters recently.

Curiosity about a dog fight is OK per Edhatters, but curiosity about a possible drunk driver in a neighborhood is not? Interesting about some people's priorities. Of course I hope the doggies involved are OK. Dogs are the best! But the OP is too open, too vague. Are you looking for a witness to help you bring a case against someone? Are you looking for more information so you know a possible house to avoid, a house with possible violent/unrestrained doggies? Please post your point. That way we can answer your question directly without having to guess. THAT'S being a helpful community!

How you post makes a big difference. Be polite and say why you're interested. Being vague just leads to the typical responses such as 585. If you're just curious, fine, say so. If you were involved and need witnesses, ask.

Many years ago, as we walked our terrier mix along the sidewalk, he was attacked... by a Collie, which surprised me. My husband was really quick with pulling out his belt and hitting the Collie, who then let go. Our little guy had long hair, and when we looked him over at home, he had puncture wounds in his neck with his hair forced down in them, 1/2" deep! But the real point I wanted to make is that maybe OP is the owner of the attacking dogs. I know that I wished I had had a witness to the attack of my dog... but I was afraid to even go up to the door for fear of being attacked myself, by the Collie or his two equally large friends on his yard. Just as you ask for witnesses to an accident you were involved in, sometimes folks reach out. Give OP a break; he may be wanting to prove his dogs weren't the attackers.

@610 You got the negative response from people because you posted a pic of the car and home of the person who was driving recklessly....which was pretty inappropriate.

There is a great little invention that more dog walkers should purchase and utilize. It is called "Quiet Spot," and is a small neoprene pouch. (itzadog-dot-com --no hyphens, natch) This pouch holds your dog's tags, such as license tag and i.d. tag. It protects tags from wear and tear. It keeps dogs' tags from jangling at night (if dogs scratch, ever). This pouch also has one immensely beneficial side-effect: A great many dogs lie in wait in their yards, listening for the sound of clinking dog tags. Since using Quiet Spot for past 10 years, on my various dogs, I have avoided A LOT of "ambush"- type dog barking. I think this little pouch also helps to avoid the dogs- running- out -to- investigate syndrome, and the ensuing encounters. Just a suggestion. Also: "attacks" rarely involve injury; merely dogs intimidating, investigating.

i am the owner of one of the dogs, he is a year and a half old hound dog puppy named oliver who is a barker not a biter and very curious. my gate latch broke yesterday and he was able to get out with my mothers dog ( a boxer) named crissie who is visiting us. neither dog is aggressive and they ran up to a large german shepherd who was off his leash as well. there was no fight, no biting nor injury. just a screaming woman in the street making a scene and barking dogs. i am a VERY responsible pet owner and active in MANY animal charities and rights groups, and i do not appreciate all of you nosey people making it into something it was not. as it is most homeowners will not rent to dog owners even the most well behaved animals and its people like this and all these nasty uninformed speculators that perpetuate it.

@670, I'm not sure what you base your "attacks rarely cause injury" comment. Attacks don't always involve major blood shed or physical injury, but a friendly dog blindsided by an attacker (as mine was at the mission), may become fearful, aggressive or unpredictable (as mine did). I had to retire her from showing, and couldn't have her loose among other dogs. Because she was "mostly" fine, but I was unwilling to have her cause the same damage to another dog.

758: Thank you for posting the correct info. It just shows what these odd "Did anyone see/hear" or "I suddenly think I'm a detective & I'm going to post my assumptions as fact!" stories people are posted aren't always exactly something that should have gone public in the first place. Sorry the woman your pups went to say hi to freaked (and luckily she didn't hurt your or your mom's dog!). I would have knelt down to say hi & get some puppy lovin' once I realized they were curious. 670: Great info, thanks, I never thought of that.

When I'm out with my dog, I'm always alert to the surroundings -- I'm not on a cell phone or listening to music. If unfamiliar dogs approach, I step in between them and my dog. This gives me time to assess their behavior and intentions.
