Will summer is here. Fun, Fun, Fun, for everyone in our beautiful and Sunny town. So much to do and see, especially for the children. Perhaps this is a good time to have a little talk about children it being summer and all the kids are out of school on summer vacation. I hear police calls involving children all the time, usually the calls involve children acting out in one form or another. When there is a celebration or festival in town such as Summer Solstice kids wander away from their folks and are reported missing, usually as soon as the folks notice they are missing. When one of these calls goes out the Santa Barbara Police drop everything they are doing, blanket the area the child was last seen, and search. Usually within a short period of time the child is found. (SBPD also search for people at risk, and elderly adults in this manner.)
On Saturday I heard of three missing children reports the average time the children were noticed missing was approx. 10 minutes. I did not hear when one was found but assume he was or I would have heard more on the scanner. I would say most kids are found within an hour from what I have heard listening to the Scanner. One woman who reported her child missing to the Santa Barbara police, I could hear over the scanner in the background of the call. The poor woman was hysterical, crying uncontrollably when I hear calls like that I get kinda emotional remembering my childhood which wasn't all that great.
The National Center for Missing and Children has some Summer Tips on their Website to keep your children safe. Please read them - a child could disappear in the blink of an eye and never be seen again. Keep your Children Close. We live in a time where there are many sex offenders walking the streets, not many people will rent to a sex offender once they find out they are registered. Not all sex offenders are registered and many have no record at all having not been arrested. Don't play roulette with your kid. WATCH THEM LIKE A HAWK. Nothing should be more important in a parent's life than their child. Something happens to a child say some type of abuse the kid could be scarred for life.
Some of the calls I've heard involving children: 288 Child Molestation, 280 Missing child, 207 Kidnap Parental abduction, Neglect like the couple about a month back female and male in Motel 6 in Goleta both had their children with them not in the room but locked in the car all night in the parking lot. Heard one not too long ago 4000 Block of Via Lucero the reporting party was the victim's sister. Her brother had a knife held to him by his mother's boyfriend. I wonder if the Mother is still dating this abuser. I hear of young children and infants locked in cars on hot days; one behind the 600 Block of State Street recently. I hear a few missing child calls especially during celebrations. We are very lucky that our city Police Department values the lives of children, people at Risk and the Elderly, enough to drop almost everything they are doing to search for our lost loved ones.
