Pedestrian Crosswalk Sting Results

On Thursday June 21, 2012, the Santa Barbara Police Department conducted a
pedestrian crosswalk sting at various locations throughout the city of Santa
Barbara. A total of 58 citations were issued for drivers failing to yield to
pedestrians in crosswalks. The sting was conducted at the following locations
with the following results: Milpas St. at Ortega St. - 27 citations, Santa
Barbara St. at Sola St. - 18 citations, and State St. at Calle Palo Colorado - 12
citations. One pedestrian was cited for walking against a red light. This detail
was conducted due to incidents of pedestrians being struck by vehicles, and many
more complaints of near misses. Motorists and bicyclists are reminded to be alert
for pedestrians attempting to cross the street; pedestrians are reminded to be
alert and be safe when crossing the street.
