Come on folks, we don't know the story here and why the OP thinks that they need this. I know if I could afford a tummy tuck I would do it in a heartbeat because I had a baby when I was a teenager and my stretch marks are awful. Maybe something happened that caused loose facial skin. Jeeeeeez!

I don't really like cosmetic surgery and usually find it superficial, however my mom did get a face life and it made a positive difference for her, boosting her self esteem which gave her the confidence to make some improvements in her life. So edhatters, let's not judge and criticize. If it ain't for you, fine, then leave it be. Do you think the OP doesn't already know what means things you might say? To the OP, her doc was in Ventura. If you like I'll chase down his name.

Be sure to see before and afters and hopefully be able to even see and talk to some of the clients first. There are good ones and there are a lot of really bad ones, scary bad ones so keep doing your homework. You don't want bee-sting lips, that is for sure, so run from anyone who suggests that. Often just lipo suction under the chin can make a big difference without the need to do too much morel Also make sure a good face lift does not sit on top of a creepy neck. Might want to ask some of the owners of the top salons in Montecito and learn who they might know about that they have seen give good results to some of their patrons -- without asking for the patron's identities. These are things hairdressers know because they get the first hand looks at the scar lines hidden behind the ears and within the hairline.

I have not had any work done, and am not interested in having work done, but I have seen some very nice work done by Dr. Julio Soares - 5333 Hollister Ave - Suite 105 - Santa Barbara, CA 93111 - (805) 967-1359. He does not overdo it and told one friend no when she wanted some work done that he said did not need to be done and would not turn out well. Can't beat that.

I understand that an excellent surgeon from Beverly Hills will be opening an office in SB - but no details yet. As to local docs: there is a list on Edhat from last summer - go to "referrals" / "health" / "facial plastic surgeons". I wish you well.

I say go for it! My 57-year old friend just had a total lift (eyes and face combined with laser to even out skintone) and she looks great, 15 years younger and completely natural. She doesn't live in California but did what others here are suggesting, ask around and spend a few bucks more for the best who does natural-looking work. Her advice is to get it all done at once and if you need any lip work, use half a vial of plumper instead of a full so you don't get clown lips.

I am trying to age gracefully/naturally, but at a certain point you do start to think about trying to turn back the clock. I don't judge those friends who've had 'work' done, if they are happy with their appearance that's all that really matters. I will say this, if it's obvious, it's BAD 'work'. Almost everyone I talk to about this says the same thing...research, and don't rely on before and after pics that some docs show you...only the best make the book! Most people I know go south to Beverly Hills to get work done by the very best. If you're going to take such a drastic step, and don't kid yourself, it's a major thing to do to yourself, seek out the best. Don't forget the recovery period can be intense and long. I wish you the best.

IF I was going to get a facelift it would be Dr. Brent Moelleken all the way. Read the article in the SB News Press today about how he performed a free plastic surgery on a woman in SB who was abused as a child. He practices in Beverly Hills and Santa Barbara. I have seen the results of his work and it IS very good. He is an artist. In fact he was on the show Dr. 90210 and he was the only plastic surgeon I have ever seen turn a patient away because he didn't think she needed the surgery she was requesting. I know people who know him personally and they say he is not only a brilliant surgeon, but a very nice person. His office is located across the street from the old St Francis Hospital

Greg Keller MD,FACS. Board certified, professor at UCLA, known for a more natural look, has developed many of the modern less invasive surgical techniques. He only works on faces. Also post op his PA Dorthy will watch over you like a hawk. I speak from person experience and friends who have used him. Go for a consult(free as most are) and do your research

Meolleken may be good (don't know, haven't seen his work first hand), but he charges twice as much as most others. I had a friend who went to Soares and her facelift turned out very good - natural looking and not too "different" than her original look.

Brent Moelleken MD is a fabulous , caring board certified surgeon. Dr. Julio Soares MD is also very good. At least have a consultation with Brent. You will be favorably impressed.

Make sure the surgeon you select is Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Check out Dr. Brent Moelleken's web page.

Dr. Lapatka is great. You do not need advice, just a good doctor who does not give lifts that are extreme or unnecessary. You will be fine.

I have three friends who were very happpy with Dr. Soares and loved their results. Just don't be shocked at the cost of these face lifts. I think they paid between $16,000 and $20,000. Another friend felt it sagged again after a few years. So only do it if you don't mind spending the money and know you may need a refresher in a few years.

Hands down, Julio Soares, MD, or Douglas MacKenzie, MD. I worked for Dr. Mackenzie. He is honest, fair, and wont cut if the work is NOT needed. He is also is board certified in hand surgery.

After researching most of the above mentioned doctors, I chose Dr, Keller for a few reasons. I wanted to look younger, but didn't want people to think, "She had a facelift". Dr. Keller offers and has developed inovative surgeries that others may not know or use. He teaches at UCLA and Face Surgeons, who have completed their training, work with Dr. Keller during their Fellowships to learn his techniques. He is the only doctor who specializes in faces. The best recommendation came from a supplier who visits all the plastic surgeon and sees their work. He liked Dr. Keller hands down and said, "He is not only the best, but the most reasonable for the quality of the work and aftercare. " I found all of that to be true.
