Scanner Reports 6-18-12

By Roger the Scanner Guy

Well here we are anutter Monday...

I hope you all had a wonderful Fathers Day. Mine was good sitting at home staring at the wall waiting for my cats to call me and tell me what to do. After all I'm Cat Dependant and the Thorzine helps. I have them both now all the time Pooh Bear is old and wants to be left alone. Jo Bear wants to play, is a little psycho on the Zombie side and scratches faces...Serial Kat just like his Daddy I'm so proud. Not Belinda though she has scratchs on her face and shes mad, not in a good way. She threw all kittys toys out and kicked him out, guess where he lives now?

I went over to Kittys old haunts the otter day and there were mice all over the place. Some were having picnics with the kids, relaxing in the sun, hiking, they were all happy that I'm feeding him now. That cat eats so much food like 4 cans a day, I can't even pay for my Pandera Verconia Habit anymore. Speaking of which does anyone know when that .99 Cent store is going to open? I cannot wait till that place opens. I see their ads in the LA Times all the time. T-Shirts for .99 Cents, I doubt if they fit me, not many things fit me.

Kinda weird I wasn't even thinking this was Fathers Day weekend. I found this obit for a guy I considered my Foster Dad. I knew he had passed away but all the information I found on him before just showed little death notices. I didn't want to have to pay for the information. Anyway I found the full obit and I spent two days just listening to the scanner and crying my eyes out. I was thinking of all the good times we had, what the guy did for me and other kids who were so full of anger and rage no one would help them (Us). This guy was a HELL of a guy. The first time I met Po I had to test him by calling him the "N" Word. It was not a good test, things didn't go the way I expected them to. Po went off and I tried to get away but Po was 6'5 over 300 Pounds and had long arms. This was before Staff members were not allowed to physically discipline us in the State of Indiana. He really let me have it, my lip was bleeding I walked away opened up my bedroom door and just before I slammed it shut and bolt locked it shut a steel door in a steel frame I yelled the "N" Word at Po again, Wrong thing to do. He slammed his body into that door several times, it was just about to give when I opened the back door where there was a closet that two rooms shared, an escape. I opened the otter door making him think that I escaped through it, I thought. Instead of doing that I opened up one of the cabinets in the back of the closet got in and shut the doors behind me. Back then I was alittle smaller 160 pounds compared to about double that today. He went through the closet looking for me "Where did he go!!!" I heard this giant of a man yell" Where did he go!!!" I was dead, I knew it. The cabinet door opened and there he was pulling me out. I was screaming "No, no,no,no,no,...!" But Po didn't listen he was very angry. He knocked the HELL out of me from Fort Wayne to Gary! I never called him the "N" word again.

There were 13 of us we came mostly from different parts of Indiana, wards of the court. We were unwanted or too incorrigible to handle. I was both incorrigible and unwanted, no one could handle me. The boys home was cool they let us be kids there. Besides a few rules of a curfew going to bed at a certain time we had it good. We were allowed to have girlfriends, grow our hair, dress the way we wanted. I grew up very angry getting beat by my real father, he never taught me how to fight so I got beat up all the time. I didn't have many friends, the kids in the neighborhood were scared of me or their parents made them be friends with me. I finally snapped in school beating another kid with a book and fractured his skull. I had already been breaking the law committing vandlisms and thefts. I was well on my way to becomming a violent criminal. By the time I got to the Boys home I had snapped several times injuring people in the process. I got sent to Military school and I held the drill instructor hostage with a .22 rifle. I wasn't going to take anyones abuse ever again. That drill instructor had been forced to retire from the Army for beating up on new Army recruits and here he was working with children in a military school. I put the fear of Roger in him no one had ever pulled a gun on him. I got beat good for it too.

After being beat for a few years I learned to take beatings, I actually got to a point I was so numb I felt no pain. Po changed all that, he wasn't a physically abusive guy he didn't beat the HELL out of us. Back then when kids got outta line they got spanked at home and swats in school within reason. My real father beat me with a closed fist, whipped me with a belt, cut my finger with a knife, threatened to burn my hands, and kicked my appendix bursting it. I was usually banged up after he got done. Po was a great Father to us kids. I don't know what they paid him but it wasn't nearly enough. He didn't just work and go home after a shift he lived there with us he took us to movies, to ball games out to dinner, to movies, field trips, picnics, lakes, camping, he even organized a softball team out of us. We played men 19-35 in the YMCA leagues we kicked their arses too! Po is gone now, he passed away back in 2007. I don't know how he died that was not in the obit. Some of the other kids that were with me in the Boys Home are gone too, some are in prison. I know of at least two that are free. I wrote to them but they never wrote me back. It's cool they are probley doing good like me, Free, not in prison or dead because a guy named John "Po" Woods devoted his life to saving ours...Happy Fathers Day Po.
