Coinstar at Albertsons. Use it to get an Amazon giftcard at no fee, which is as good as cash.

The coin machines take too much profit for my taste. Make it a family affair, go to a bank, ask for some coin rollers and get to rollin'!! It's actually kind of fun!

Just remembered, we used to give them to a friend who banked at S.B. Bank & Trust....they would take it loose and only charged 1%. No sure if they still have that service. B of A makes you roll them yourself.

865..... Is there a charge or deduction for the Coinstar service?

I agree w/ Aquaholic, at almost 10%, the fee is to high. I never walk out of the house w/ change in my pocket and drop all that I have each day when I return in a jar. Twice a year I roll the quarters, dimes and nickels usually about $270. The pennies I take to Coinstar. It's worth the 2 hours to roll over $500 a year than pay $50 or more to have a machine do it.

Coin star charges NO fee if you get a gift card with one of their partners like Amazon or Starbucks.

You can get full value with Coinstar if you get a store gift card (Albertson's at least) or other type of gift card.

To the Amazon/Gift Card/CoinStar proponents are missing is this: the SHIPPING AND DELIVERY fees are often as high, if not higher, than the mere 8% Coinstar wants to charge for you to receive your money out-right.

Want to avoid the fees?

Save your coins and when you have to drive through Vegas, bring them with you. All of the casinos will count your change and give you bills back FOR FREE.

What's wrong with Amazon? They have a ton of items with free shipping. The few times I've paid for shipping, the total cost was still far below what I would have paid locally.

Take the coins to a coinstar machine and pick one of the
35
options for no-fee payout.

What's wrong with Amazon? Well for one they unfairly compete with California stores which pay the taxes which keep us a civilized place. Now I know Amazon is going to start to do this in the near future but I believe they have negotiated deals with the communities where they will build their in state warehouses to pay Amazon an amount equal to about half of what they pay the state in sales taxes from customers. This is the power of money and why it is so hard to have an equitable and ethical governance so long as money is allowed to abuse us by taking advantage of the neediest.

I use Amazon when it's clear I will never find what I am looking for in a local store. But I am always amazed at how they can offer free shipping on just about everything, and how cheap everything is. Just goes to show you how much money they are making off of John Q Public store owner to sell their goods on Amazon.

And I will always wrap my coins and take them to the bank to get cold hard cash.

917/912: Ok, so you don't like Amazon because of shipping fees. Use one of the other gift card options (Starbucks, grocery stores, Toys R Us, Old Navy, CVS, restaurants, ...). Not that difficult. Of course, that leaves nothing to complain about, which I'm sure saddens you deeply.

SBB&T charges $4 to cash a check on one of their accounts if you're not a customer, I can't see them counting jars full pennies for free. Maybe when they were still a local bank.

288912 obviously has not been to Vegas in a while. There isn't one casino left that has coin slot machines. You can still find them in out-of-the-way places, but even "Slots-o-Fun" has replaced all their slot machines with ticket-dispensing machines. No coins. Thus none of the casino cashier cages have coin counters anymore.

Lucky you, 289199. Rabobank stopped handing out wrappers years ago.
