Lyme Disease
updated: Jun 17, 2012, 3:26 PM
Looking for a local doctor (Goleta/SB) familiar with treatment for lyme disease. Fairly certain I have
contracted it from an apparent tick bite about 3-5 weeks ago and need someone who is familiar
with its early treatment.

Just about any internist should be able to help. I had Lyme Disease twice when I lived in Massachusetts and the treatment was antibiotics. ...I suggest not hesitating, A question always is whether one actually has Lyme Disease.

If it's not too personal a question, would you mind telling us what your symptoms are?

To follow up on 853's comment a little - the standard two-phase test for Lyme disease is not always accurate. Sometimes a false negative is shown. It might be worth your while to seek out and get your own tests done at a lab of your choosing, just as backup in case there are issues later. (Do some research on 'best Lyme disease lab in California'.) This is particularly important in the small percentage of people for whom the standard course(s) of antibiotics are not sufficient in ridding the body of completely of spirochetes. In that case, a longer and more aggressive treatment of antibiotics is needed.

Dr Erica Lehman is a tick borne disease specialist and her website is very informative for those suffering with chronic lyme disease or are suffering with co-infections from tick bites. If you were bitten by a tick with Lyme you will need to see a proper M.D. familiar with these infections to be properly diagnosed and treated ASAP. http://www.prohealthgroupinc.com/

You might check with Dr. Mathis 569-7100 or Dr. Bochenski in SB

Dr Scully in the infectious disease department at Sansum successfully treated my husband last year. We didn't know what was wrong as he didn't know he was bitten and didn't have the bulls eye. I highly recommend her.

Whatever you do after initial treatment, keep your eye on it to make sure you are really rid of it. Best of luck.

Dr. Dennis Baker had lyme disease, so he is no doubt familiar with treatment. He was off work for more than six months.
