As if to start Father's Day a few hours early, just before sunset yesterday a young quail family followed their Dad in dangerous terrain: a suburban neighborhood. Mom was close behind but Dad seemed especially alert and nervous, repeating his alarm call as I turned the zoom lens toward them. The chicks were irresistibly cute, and did their best to keep up. After they had all safely rounded the corner of the house across the street, Dad immediately relaxed and returned to teaching the young ones foraging.
