Scanner Report 6-13-12
updated: Jun 13, 2012, 7:05 AM

By Roger the Scanner Guy

Wednesday, and Hump Day for those of us lucky enough to work and make a lot of money. A lot of Door to Door sales people out there I have been doing a little reading on them. Personally I would not open my door to anyone even if they looked like they were Mormon. I gotta little story about that. Many years ago I was living in a Rescue Mission in Hammond, Indiana. It was run by the Hammond Baptist Church. We got three squares a day, a warm bed, a hot shower. In exchange we walked to the church and sat in the basement in the broiler room available and waiting for work from 6am to 6pm. We had to go to church too; a lot of Church! Most of the time we were working not waiting around, it was Winter time. One day these guys showed up at the door white shirts, black ties, shiny black shoes, they were wearing those tags that Mormon missionaries used to wear on their shirts. We opened the door thinking they made a mistake. Mormons at a Baptist Church.

But they were not Mormans. They were the FBI. One of the fellas staying in the rescue mission was wanted by them and bad. We had no sooner opened the door then not just two agents but a dozen appeared and they drew their guns on us. It was pretty scary, mostly because two other guys besides the otter were wanted and we all took off running. I was not always the goody two shoes I am now. I'm scared of Mormons now. I know I'm safe with the Baptists. We did not know it but when the Rescue Mission accepted us into their program they called the police to see if we were wanted by the Law. Three of us were. Rusty was wanted for busting into an armory; he was kind of a Domestic Terrorist. Eddie was wanted in Gary for robbing a drug dealer; I was wanted for probation violation. The funny thing about it is all three of us had no idea that the police knew exactly where we were. I don't know what happened to Rusty and Eddie. I joined the NAVY and got the HELL outta there. Times have changed about a thousand times since then and it really is not safe to open the door to people you do not know even if they look clean cut.

The majority of your Door to Door solicitors are looking for an opportunity to rip you off. Don't give them the chance, keep your doors locked. Tell them to go away. Call the police if you are suspicious of them. Some of them knock on your door and if you don't answer they break in. Some you let in. Say if two people come in one keeps you busy the other asks to use the bathroom. They leave and you discover some of your stuff is gone. It ain't worth it to be nice anymore. People take advantage of you. It wasn't too long ago one of those kids selling magazines door to door was busting into people's homes. Don't listen to the jerks that say you're paranoid. They are part of the problem. It's better to be safe than Sorry.
