By Roger the Scanner Guy
Wednesday is already here. Happy Hump Day. I was riding my 3-Wheeler the otter day and I got to this hill. I'm just not that strong anymore; I couldn't ride it up hill I was all outta breath. This fella was walking toward me he's all dirty and wearing funny sunglasses. I'm breathing heavy, being big and all, pushing my tricycle. The guy stops and asks if I'm all right. I said "Yea why?" He told me he was concerned that I was breathing so heavy. While he was talking he was eyeing the box in the basket in the back of my bicycle. It was empty except for my bicycle lock, but he didn't know that. It looked like a full 18-pack of Budweiser. He had that look about him the "Beer Run" Look. Alcoholics active and sober know that look; I was trying not to laugh. He did not go for it but I wish he would have, I would have loved the look on his face after realizing he got nothing. Of course then I would have had to buy him a beer. He was a drunk looking for easy money to get more alcohol. He is probably a great guy when he's sober. As I was walking away he said something to me about not sharing my beer I kept going still trying not to laugh.
I read all these comments about how bad the homeless are, and how good Santa Barbara is to them but Santa Barbara is not good to all of them. There are those few that get trapped and grinded up in the gears with wet brain or death. Sometimes I think the reason why Santa Barbara is now full of homeless people good and bad is our karma. The reason why a lot cannot be done is lawsuits or so I've heard. Lawsuits can take a long time I guess some of us just better get used to it. Either way, Santa Barbara is a beautiful city and I'm grateful to live here. I could be living in some dive in Calumet City, Ill. downing half pints, looking at some guy's 18-pack.
