We're so sad to see Outfooters in La Cumbre Plaza is closing, and I was wondering if anyone knew of
any good places to buy Asics?

I didn't know they were closing. I'm so sorry to see them go! I think it is the only local running store worth going to. Sigh.

Sorry to see them go - good people. If you can't find the style you like here, go online and avoid the sales tax.

Bad news! One of the remaining stores left from the "old days". One by one we see old friends go and little to replace them. Two luxury handbag stores replacing other favourites came and went. Tiffany may be next. Pity the landlords became greedy. Long gone Cafe Au Lait is a joy sadly missed. Others too numerous to mention, except perhaps for the always fun family eatery, the Red Robin. Over 5 empty store fronts is not good,

I agree,060. The wife & I used to love cruising La Cumbre. It seems like in the past five or so years the owners have attempted to make it a Paseo Nuevo satellite mall and it just isn't working. The well-healed who like to rub elbows with fellow high end shoppers either head to PN or go south to other hoity-toity shopping venues. Sadly, La Cumbre is on it's way for another ghost town appearance or short sale on the commercial real estate market. Pro tip mall owners: A little money is better than no money.

I usually go to Santa Barbara running, but if you run alot and are set on a brand like I am, I also buy alot on Zappos dot com ( they have a great return policy and pay shipping both ways, especially if you try them on and just don't fit )

thats sad! it baffles me that Paseo and La Cumbre are both owned by the same management company yet they are so different. i miss the old la cumbre mall, but i hate the downtown mall and that its become a place where pop up shops show up and they are all forever 21 type stores. oh well...

I love La Cumbre mall! It's pretty and quiet to walk in - there's no one there... I know that's not what the store owners want, but it just is.

Sad about Outfooters.....try Big 5. The one VERY good thing about La Cumbre is free parking and lots of it. Many don't shop downtown anymore because parking is difficult and not free.

Another vote for Zappos. Free shipping both ways, great customer service, and a lot easier to find styles and sizes that you need. If you join their vip, you can get next day shipping, also free.

285141P - I'll bet you $100 that you are wrong. When the city sells the lots we may not get a full 75 free minutes, but I'll guarantee you that at a minimum the first 30 minutes will still be free. 285060 - I too sorely miss Red Robin, but after going to its replacement, the Marmalade Cafe, for the first time a few weeks ago, I was truly impressed. Great food, good selection, good prices, good service, comfortable, and they have a coupon every month in the mailer we all get.

Yet another vote for Zappos. Their customer service and committment to quality are rivaled by none. And there's no freight or tax on your purchases. They have detailed photos and videos for most of their shoes and their selection is vast. They get all my shoe business now - only downside is not being able to try them on but since you know what brand you like, that shouldn't get in your way.

I won't go to Santa Barbara Running. They are elitist runner snobs and their customer service sucks. Outfooters was my running store for the last 20 years. So now... it's not local, but Zappos rocks.

Sports Authority in Goleta has the largest selection of Asics I know in town. They don't have much at REI and Big 5 didn't have much of a selection when I was looking for some recently.

Outfooters has been in SB for a very long time...the original store on State St. was well established when I came to town in 1980. The latest, and now it seems, final incarnation is on the way to being just a memory. The owner, Jay is such a good person I'm sorry that he is closing his doors. I know his rent was outrageous...very sad about him calling it quits. I'll have to go in there soon. Another one bites the dust... Sadly, yes Zappos is a good resource for running shoes. :-(

I've seen them at Sports Authority, but not sure of the selection available. If you can find them at Zappos online, they're great and have fab customer service (free shipping both ways too!). I miss the old La Cumbre - specifically Eddie Bauer and Easy Spirit. Thank heaven J.Jill has managed to hang on. Are the folks who own the La Cumbre mall locals? If so, they must live behind the hedges in Montecito. Santa Barbara is a retail desert for "real" people. We have two so-so Macy's, Sears (good for tools and appliances but otherwise depressing), and the Worst K-Mart in the Entire World. I used to like Fresh Produce downtown on State Street too. Thank heaven Goleta is seriously considering a Target; otherwise, I do my shopping in Ventura and Camarillo.

This is not fair. We need to collect sales tax from online retailers the same as the local retailers. This levels the playing field and provides much needed sales tax revenue, too

I have had some OK experiences at SB Running on Anacapa, however, the Goleta store has the WORST customer service on the planet. I had a problem with a shoe I bought there and rather than dealing with the problem they told me I should deal with the manufacturer directly, very rudely I might add. I did and never went back. On an earlier occasion I was there the day before a race buying last minute supplies. The rude employee told me I didn't look like a runner and that the race I was doing was for lunatics (pier to peak). That may be the case but I would think a local running store would support a local running race. I am all about supporting local business, but they still need to treat their customers like customers and not idiots with wallets. Zappos! No tax No shipping. Sorry SB Running!

I have had better experiences at the downtown SB Running than the Goleta location as well. I do not suggest going to either if you have a specific brand in mind. I went looking for Asics and was never shown a single pair of them. Rather than telling me up front that they didn't have what I wanted, they kept trying to steer me toward other brands by dismissing my requests and making me feel like a complete idiot. I bought my latest Asics at Sports Authority and got a great deal. Downside is you don't have someone helping fit them for you, and the ones I got were a little too big.

It is sad to see Outfooters move on...nice folks...but I think the store lost focus....many runners I know could not find the shoes they wanted. I have had much better luck at SB Running. Sure, if the store is packed service can slip but I have always found them helpful...and they really seem to know their stuff. I also note they support lots of local events.

I'm so sad to see them go. Been going there for years and they always had every shoe (running/hiking/tennis) that I wanted. Really liked the owner too - good guy. I suspected something was wrong a couple of years ago when New Balance stopped shipping shoes to them. I tried New Balance on line and it's just OK, but it's hard to find the right shoe without being able to try them on. So long, friend - I'll miss you!
