Has anyone noticed the volume level of KEYT commercials has gotten extremely loud?

I don't know about KEYT specifically, but ALL commercials are way louder than the programming they accompany. I believe there was legislation pending to regulate this. Perhaps an email campaign to KEYT?

I find this to be true on all stations. Now I just hit the "mute" button whenever a commercial comes on.

Yes I have noticed it and they are beyond loud. KEYT has way too many news broadcasts as well. The 11:00 crew almost seems intoxicated at times (which i admit is ammusing) They often repeat the same news over and over for days and are usually the last to report some important stories. Anyway yes the adds are extremely loud....

I thought there used to be a standard for volume level on the channels so that all were about the same. Now it's just ridiculous and in addition to being loud the commercials as more annoying than ever. As for Keyt news... I only watch for the weather. Otherwise its the same thing over and over for weeks. How many times do you want to hear about the same thing? I thought it was "news", but it's just the nightly re-hash.

I've also noticed that channel 3 (KEYT) is the lowest volume channel I have. When ever I watch something on this channel, I have to turn the volume all the way up. Then we will forget and turn the channel and scare everyone with the volume up so high

The GOOD news is that the FCC has passed a law effective next year that prevents advertisers from pumping up the volume on commercials.

I only watch the 1st couple minutes of their broadcasts and switch the channel to something interesting before the commercial break ever happens.

I find their newscasts to be extremely helpful in finding out where all the accidents occurred on any given day. Plus I like how the reporters come and go on a weekly basis.

092- I agree that KEYT's volume is really low, but the ads are not. I'm sure there's a way they control this, but would never admit to it.

KEYT is the worst run station on the south coast. I once listened to an entire news broadcast while the director and crew's conversation was being broadcast on the surround channel. Pretty funny when they found out and tried to get everyone to shut up. Kill your cable and you'll be much happier with the lack of noise and ads in your life after you detox.

They have a certain bandwidth they are allowed to use. In order to get our attention during commercials they compress the bandwidth which allows them to broadcast at a higher volume for those. That makes them sound louder. Yes, they do play with it and control it.

Volume I can handle. But content is beyond my control, unfortunately. I'd like to be able to rely on a local station to do a good job. It just doesn't improve. . . It wasn't long ago that they reported weather four times. Like, how happy can it be.

128-I have to agree you cannot get much worse than the overall unprofessionalism on KEYT. The constant sound and video issues as well as the "news people" they employ. You can get more information on what is actually happening in our area from an LA news station that you can by watching them stumble through that broadcast.

Fear not folks, they are putting in new legislation that requires all television companies to place sound equalization on all TV commercials by Dec. 2012. Seems that Politicians also find it annoying too. Check it out:w w w. techspot. c o m/news/46665-new-fcc-rule-regulates-tv-commercial-volume.html

One of the things that I notice is they run the same ads over 2 or 3 times after each other. Some of the PSAs are run up to 10 times in an hour during the after midnight hours. Many times on the weekends programs will be cut into for a commercial (accidentially, of course). I have called them many times and they fix some of the programing problems on their RTV channel but they never know about what is happening if someone doesn't call as the RTV channel to telecast from the east coast and is not edited locally. I don't have cable so only get KEYT & RTV with rabbit ears.

Yes, many of the ads are MUCH louder and this seems to be happening more frequently - the "sound bursts" often shock or frighten our pets snoozing on the floor in front of the tv. As others have commented, KEYT has really become a lamentable operation - much of the content is repeated ad nauseum with the same trashy low-rent ads repeated as well. The newscasters, a nice enough bunch, regularly make basic grammatical errors and mispronounce the names of places, including places here in CA, not some remote corner of the world - Marin County, Placerville, to name two of the more recent mispronunciations - not a matter of life and death in the scheme of things but disappointing coming from this town's major (and only) TV station.

I agree with the comments that KEYT's commercials play too loud and it's crazy they don't broadcast in HD. However, some of the comments about the news people are just way out of line. "Unprofessional", "pathetic" I've lived all over the country and you don't know how bad small city TV can get. The problem here is, we get LA TV too and compare little ole KEYT to the biggest city in the country. That's unfair. KSBY broadcast static yesterday for 30 minutes! and KCOY doesn't even have local news anymore and you folks are slamming Channel 3. And go head watch LA news and see how much Santa Barbara news you really get. I do wish however, 3 would go HD.

And KEY-3 still hasn't invested in any half-way decent lighting for its broadcasts...really awful at this point, and extremely unflattering. The volume on those ads is Obnoxious!

I tape KEYT news on the DVR and skip those annoying commercials. You can watch the entire news in less than 10 minutes because they repeat the same national news you can see on ABC News. I think they should get some interns from SBCC or UCSB and have more local news. They could certainly do a better job. I agree with 322. The news people all seem to do a fine job and I believe they are professional.
