MTD Cancellations

I heard that MTD is considering canceling service to the lower Riviera on Route 22. They are waiting for 6
months to see if we can get the ridership increased. I am hoping that EdHaters can help by encouraging
people to take the bus. They can't use a smaller bus because the main cost is the driver, so that wouldn't
help much. It would help if they even increased the 6 months to a year to see if the opening of the El
Encanto (workers) and Bella Riviera (former St. Francis Hospital site) would help increase the
ridership.

Yes they are. They said the workers at the new hotel/resturant could park at the mission and take the bus up to work because they were not forced to allow for enough parking for their employees. We'll see how this plays out.

The can park at the mission? Does the Mission agree with this use of their parking lot?

MTD is planning on changing the crosstown shuttle schedule.... again. Less trips per day and when I take it home around 5:30 it is usually full. If they want people to use public transportation it needs to be convenient for the passenger. Looks like Ill be getting a car come fall.

It's not MTD making the cuts, it's the City of SB

#22 is the only bus to the Mission, Natural HIstory Museum and Botanical Garden. Seems we should keep this service to help tourists (and locals!) come to enjoy some of our most wonderful sites. If SB is really a town that holds cuture dear, one doesn't cut off the ONLY public transport to these fab places. To get ridership up, maybe make the #22 visually a special Mission/Museum bus so people could just hop on and go! The city does such a great job w/ Fiesta hats and such on the busses, maybe we could do the same for #22 but even more.

As if the transportation to the foothills wasn't bad enough. I already have to walk a mile from my house to get to the bus stop at the Mission and now theres not going to be a 22 at all?

poor service, bad routs, long rides. all reason why the SB MTD system fails to attract anyone who isn't forced to use it by necessity. If I can get downtown, do my business and return home in less time than it takes to get downtown on the bus then why take the bus? My time is more valuable than that and wasting it on the bus is pointless.

204 hit the nail on the head. Unless MTD (with the help of the City and County) increase the frequency of busses along the routes fewer and fewer will find it possible to use the bus for their daily requirements. The City constantly hammers us to get out of our cars. But without a real alternative in place it will never be possible. We hear about how cities in Europe and elsewhere are more pedestrian friendly. But the ones that I have seen all have bus and tram service that covers the entire city on a very frequent basis. And for 077, it isn't the City making the cuts. MTD is their own special district.

At a MTD meeting, they decided to continue route 22 until at least October or so. I couldn't find the exact date.
