May 20, 2012 - Just Another Day

It's just another day in Santa Barbara. The sound of leaf blowers and barking dogs try to drown out the effervescence of the blue cloudless skies. At the Edhat office, the Edhat Dog lies in remiss, wondering why she checked the mail this morning instead of keeping to her task and bringing back the newspaper as she normally does. There was no treat for her today when she returned without the daily news. Her "just read it on Edhat!" retort did not win her any points, or get her any treats.

The Sunday newspaper is thick, filled with special ads, feature articles, and colored "funnies". We are not sure why they're called "funnies" because they rarely are. Usually you can read the whole section without a chuckle.

So, if you are looking for some real entertainment this morning, we have some treats from Edhat. The Dog is right you know. We just don't want her think that it is an excuse for shirking her daily retrieving task.
The Dog of the Week is Sir Simon, a dog surrounded by cats. The cat of the Week is P-Nut. The Non-profit of the week is Teaching Beyond Textbooks, dedicated to public education. David Powdrell reminisces about helicopter seeds, Kelsey Abkin our Teen Voice, cautions celebrities to be mindful of their impact on young people, and Robert Bernstein took a hike to Rocky Pine Ridge.

---- Edhat Stuff ----------------------------------

POWDRELL: As adolescent kids growing up in rustic Carson City, Nevada, my three brothers and I spent countless hours tossing helicopter seeds into the air, marveling at their slow descent back to earth.

NON-PROFIT OF THE WEEK: Teaching beyond Textbooks is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization committed to public education in Santa Barbara County.

DOG OF THE WEEK: I would like to introduce you to Sir Simon. He lives in a household of four cats and puts up with them graciously.

CAT OF THE WEEK: Meet P-Nut, an awesome cat in so many ways!
