Anchors Away!

Here's the deal...I got a call from my wife as she was running along the trails of the Carpinteria Bluffs last week. "You gotta see this anchor!" Pant, pant. "It's incredible!"
Sure enough, sitting on the back of a semi-truck is this big, old, crazy-looking, rusted-out anchor. I'm thinking Mayflower, Nina, Pinta or Santa Maria as I snap photos. It's that big, and it's that rusty.
I check in with a spokesman at Venoco, where the anchor currently resides, and he gives me some details. The anchor measures approximately 21 feet long and the crossbar measures 15 feet wide. It weighs approximately 18,500 pounds. It was pulled from the Ellwood Mooring a few weeks ago. There are 3 or 4 of them still on the ocean floor. They were used to secure the oil processing mooring for what is now owned by Venoco.
His best guess is that anchor has been on the ocean floor since 1929, possibly earlier. It'll most likely be put into a museum in Goleta.
Thought you might like to see the old anchor, kelp attached and all. Frankly, I found the colors and texture really interesting.
