Lost Hikers Found
updated: May 01, 2012, 5:29 PM

Source: Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office

A Santa Barbara Sheriff's helicopter in the air combined with Sheriff's deputies on the ground to find two lost hikers on More Mesa near Hope Ranch Tuesday afternoon.

At approximately 12:53pm on Tuesday, May 1, 2012, Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to an area near Mockingbird Lane and Calle Las Brisas for a report of two women who may have gotten lost while hiking.

According to the reporting party, a 78-year old Santa Barbara woman and her developmentally disabled adult daughter where hiking with a group of people on More Mesa this morning when the two women became separated from the group.

When the missing women failed to appear, Sheriff's deputies where called. The deputies began to search from the ground while a Sheriff's helicopter was dispatched to search from the air. The helicopter crew spotted the missing women shortly after reaching the area at approximately 1:35pm.

The helicopter crew helped direct the deputies on the ground to the women who were indeed lost, but uninjured. The deputies assisted the women as they walked off the mesa. The Sheriff's deputies also credit a jogger who observed the women and assisted in finding them and returning the pair to safety.
