Upholstery Decor on Hollister in old town Goleta. We just brought our second piece of furniture to him and are very happy. The owner really knows his stuff and does a great job!

Economy Upholstery They have fixed a couch eaten by dogs to like new condition! Miracle workers and very reasonable. They do work at their own pace. But a little patience and big rewards! 1030 De La Vina Street, Santa Barbara, CA (805) 966-7115

Another vote for Upholstery Decor on Hollister in old town Goleta. David learned his trade from his parents, a family business.

About how much does it cost to have a lounge chair recovered. Where do you get the material?

I had dining room chairs done by Andy Pompa and son in Oxnard. 805-981-0127 He comes to Santa Barbara once a week. He has books of upholstery fabric to order from. The job was well done and the chairs look great. I thought it was quite expensive, but I think it's that way everywhere. I think we paid $100 for each chair. He comes to your house to pick up the furniture and brings it back. So I guess it's not that expensive when you think of the cost of gas.

I got great material at Random on State St. (that fun funky shop across from the Granada). High quality but very inexpensive.

If you want the best and can afford the best, TSG Upholstery, 106 Powers Ave. Their list of cliental is impressive. Their work unbelievable. I did not know what good upholstery was until I went there. Every thread line matches. They have a lot of fabric samples and the owner always gives a good discount on the fabric.

I had two slipcovers made for my couch and loveseat by Sofa U Love and they did a fantastic job! They have a great selection of fabrics, pick up and deliver your furniture, and it only took a week.

902: ditto. I had wicker chair cushions reupholstered at TSG, they are perfect. Picked out the material from one of their books. Couldn't be happier.

I wouldn't go with Renga. They did a big antique armchair I inherited that had a good down/feather seat and it came back with cheap foam rubber instead. The story was that the old stuffing was no good, but I didn't buy that. Workmanship was not great, some fabric came loose from the frame within a year or so, and in some places you can feel the tacks used to attach fabric to the frame--ouch! The springs under the seat were supposed to be replaced but they are pretty much worn out now, the seat really slumps (about 7 years later), you can see some springs are pushing out the fabric on the bottom of the chair. Either they were pretty cheap new springs or they just retied the old ones. Job cost over $600.

I got my references from the designer at the Upham Hotel: Ken Naour 422 N. Milpas 965-5755 an absolute perfectionist. he recovered an important living room chair. His seams and pattern matching are exquisite. Upholstery Galore, Inc. - 623 E. Haley Mike & Jay 965-3603 214 Helene Street, by Big Dog I am happy with both upholstery places. I have used both for different things. Ken is fabulous but a little more expensive. I take my best stuff to him. Upholstery Galore, Mike & Jay, I make sure that I remind them to center the fabric pattern. They did all my dining room chairs and an inherited chair of my great aunt.

Ditto @898. Check out their decent selection of upholstery fabric at around $5/yard. With your savings over the overpriced Remnant Store, you can buy an electric stapler and do it yourself. Most projects are ridiculously easy and even if you make a mistake, just think about the extra couple hundred bucks in your pocket every time you look at it.

Try Frangos on Milpas; in business for at least 60 yrs, probably longer. Costa Frango's store, started by his parents.
