Teen Voice - 04/22/2012

Four Twenty
updated: Apr 21, 2012, 8:16 PM

By Kelsey Abkin

Throughout all today there seemed to be an unusual amount of people missing from our classes, almost half. This at first seemed strange until we all came to the realization that it was April 20th (4/20). For some reason, someone somewhere decided that today was a day dedicated to smoking weed. You'd think this suggestion would be simply denied, but instead teenagers are taking full advantage. The hype of 4/20 is at its peak.

Smoking weed is something that has become almost socially acceptable. It's a personal decision but that doesn't mean it can't be detrimental. Even if not health wise, it definitely seems to take a toll on people's social lives. The more into smoking teenagers become, the less drive they seem to have in school and other social situations. Given how easy it is to get medical cards nowadays more teenagers have easy access to weed. The growing trend of smoking weed is being encouraged by events such as 4/20.
