Quest for Hydrangea
updated: Apr 04, 2012, 7:10 AM
I need purple and pink hydrangea plants (for cut stems) for a wedding dinner. The store where I ordered them didn't come through for me. I have looked at Home Depot, OSH, and a couple nurseries and none were
available. Any ideas where to get them? I need them this Thursday! Maybe a big bush somewhere?

Try the nursery in Montecito on Coast Village Road. Saw them there yesterday.

This Thursday... as in tomorrow? Fifty Flowers (online) can deliver by next Thursday if that's what you meant. We had a great experience with them.

Too early for garden hydrangeas to be blooming. Have you considered pink and purple callas? They're beautiful in many coordinating shades. There is a Central Coast couple growing them in Arroyo Grande (Nipomo Mesa area) and they might be able to get them to you tomorrow--certainly next week. They ship to many floral distributors in SF & LA, and Vegas for the hotels. They specialize in wedding work and their plants produce long stems, ususual in colored callas. Excel Floral, 805-343-2900 Arroyo Grande CA Good luck!

Try Trader Joe's (call ahead to the different stores first to make sure they have them in stock) or try Farmer's Markets. Good luck!

Have you called any of the growers in Carpinteria? That is where I got my flowers from. Good luck! And, 321 made a great point. Be sure to enjoy the day even if everything is not exactly as planned!
