Can you describe your needs? --------------------Do you want a company that will respond, or just cameras installed or......... the more specific you are about your needs, then you will get a more accurate recommendation.... I notice the Montecito Estate that hosted the Kardashian wedding has a full time security guard at their entrance gate. Go over there and see what company they are using. I just installed a camera system that I bought on sale at Costco.

I use Remington 870 security services, followed by Servicemaster for clean-up.

Right on 371! My buddies Smith and Wesson are always there for me when needed, instead of RESPONDING to crime like the police.

Someone can come out and do an assesment of your house & yard. Then you can correct any deficiencies they find... Such as, trees too close to the house, poor lighting, better windows, better door locks, motion detectors, etc.....

I use Protect One. $450 a year ($38.00 a month) for fire and security monitoring. I get 5 door alarms and three motion - smoke detectors. It is all done by phone / wireless; alarm goes off, they call the cops. They do not have patrols. Best security tip: gravel paths all the way around the house. They may come, but I will hear them...crunch, crunch, crunch.

I like the crunch crunch crunch gravel idea. I have fallen leaves that crunch during certain times of the year. I run down there and find it's usually skunks or raccoons, which is fine with me!!!!

We chose Draganchuk, www.draganchuk.com, 963-0259. They are a local family owned (family name really is Draganchuk), know what they're doing, and provided better service at lower cost than the big franchises. We have 24/7 remote monitoring with UPS battery back-up (important for us, as we're in an area with frequent electrical outages), zones (so we know where the problem is, if/when there's a problem), etc. This is for our small business. Their residential monitoring is $21.50/month.

p.s. We are an ammo factory & gun store, so we can supply those folks choosing weapons. However, when you're not there, a remote security system is a really good idea if you have valuable things that need protecting.

We used Protection One in the past and had the worst experiences ever!! I even wrote to the Better Business Bureau. We changed to Custom Alarm, a family-owned business in S.B., and we are really comfortable. They are efficient and even nice!

I'm the central coast rep for ADT and live locally here in Goleta. Most security and alarm companies are basically the same, but the difference is getting the right system and coverage for your needs and the quality of the electronics installed. Email me at caljian@adt. com if you have any questions. Everyone will say good and bad things about every company, but what's most important is that your system works the "first time".
