Scanner Reports 3-26-12
updated: Mar 26, 2012, 7:05 AM

By Roger the Scanner Guy

Another Monday. Should I even announce the days anymore - I feel like I'm on a Merry Go Round and I'm sure some of you do too. Ran into someone I know the other day a fella who loves to live outside as compared to paying a large amount of his working income paying rent. I'm not sure whether or not that is why he lives outdoors, I have always known him for a traveler, yet he has always worked. He got into a fight recently and shared with me his experience as he was herded through the courts. Arrested on Assault charges - he was cited and released in court he was sentenced to 6 months of Anger Management. He said nothing about probation, but I'm pretty sure he is on some type of probation to at least monitor his anger management. I'm also sure that he has to pay Victim Restitution which used to be 125.00 Dollars, everyone has to pay that. I would think it is probably a lot more than 125.00 Dollars now. That is how much it was the last time I found myself in hot water back in 1999. As far as doing Jail Time he like many others knows there is no room at the Inn. Not everyone goes to jail, many get cited and released. Personally and it is my hope that violent offenders are held long enough for their present anger to (dissipate) before they are released.

Maybe all of the scrap that Santa Barbara has had to endure the past dozen years or so is our Karma for slapping Band-Aids on everything in our attempt to look good for the world being that we are considered a tourist destination, Aka the American Riviera. If we had done things the right way in the first place, I question whether or not there would be so many problems here. Not that we have major crime on a daily basis I'm sure some crime might be allowed to exist and accepted as if the way of the world. The poor will always pay for the sins of the wealthy and there will always be crime. Our mission is to learn how to roll with the Punches not to abolish crime, Dog Forbid! The more that people are required to pay in taxes and otter things the more it seems they feel justified in breaking da law. Especially by violating the poor or those who live life styles that make them vulnerable.

I am glad that our Police department is focusing on Traffic violators as that seems like the most justified law to break. It's like a game with some motorists well...You play, You Pay if you get caught don't whine. I'm sure there is much more money in it for the city by ticketing traffic offenders. As most will pay as compared to going to jail than the homeless who live outside and cannot afford to pay the illegal camping fines. The city is no pun intended Spinning their Wheels by giving Law abiding homeless people tickets. But just take a look at the Fire lane opposite the restaurant parking lot at 216 South Milpas. It's always packed with parking violators and a gold mine if violators were ticketed everyday as they should be. What if there was a fire and no room for the fire trucks to park? Lives might be at stake that's ok though people die every day and someone needed a hamburger after working hard all day and donating a buck and a half to their charity of their choice. Good People are allowed to break the law especially if it's off the backs of the poor and vulnerable.
