I am looking for inexpensive teeth cleaning by a dental hygienist. I do not
have insurance.

We go to Dr. Meldje, on State St., and he is a wonderful dentist. His hygienists are both fantastic. 1-805-687-5669 We also don't have insurance, and find the price to be acceptable! They do great work.

What exactly do you mean by reasonable price? A teeth cleaning only shouldn't be all that expensive even without insurance.

Just as an FYI, I bought Delta Dental Individual Insurance for $110 a year. Great deal. Much cheaper than the insurance offered where I work.

Barney Valeska's hygienist is very good (and good looking as well), and Dr. Valeska always works with you to get the price reasonable if you don't have insurance. Valeska is in the back of El Mercado at 4141 State St.

Native American Health Services at El Mercado Plaza. I'm pretty sure it's either free or very minimal charge. They are open to the public.

Get insurance and save. Dental select HMO with Anthem Blue Cross is 17 bucks a month, no waiting periods except for major services. Free cleanings, free screenings, etc from day 1.

When you say inexpensive, do you mean less expensive than a cut and color?

@976. That sounds like an advertisement. Also, for that price, you're probably paying about the same, or slightly more for just a cleaning 2x/year. In this case you wouldn't be saving anything unless you paid more than $102 per cleaning visit. If the poster is someone who doesn't need cavities filled or other expensive services, they might not benefit from having insurance. There were times I had to have personal medical coverage and I opted not to have dental insurance because it was cheaper for regular visits not to. I also noted that in most cases, large-ticket items only had a small portion covered and you had to pay a deductible.

I have been without dental insurance for over a decade. I'm able to get by with half as many cleanings by using a Phillips Sonicare electric toothbrush. While it's ~$100, so are most cleanings. It lasts about 3-5 years before wearing out. (I'm on my second one.)

At least once a week use baking soda instead of toothpaste, along with the sonicare. It helps to eliminate plaque build up.
