Hair we are Mid-Week already Wednesday. My friend has a room for rent 550.00 a month I posted it for him on CL. He says 5 minutes after I posted it his phone was ringing off the hook many people were asking if he'd take 2 people in that room NOT just one but 2. One person said it would be for her and her mother. My friend was upset when he says to me "People are really hurting out there." I agreed anyone that has a roof over their head has it pretty good. There are many that don't. The last time I was houseless was back in 1998, I was sleeping in my old 1979 Olds ‘98. I bet there are a lot of un-terminal homeless people out there in vehicles I hear many on the scanner being called in as suspicious vehicles.
I had some weird experiences in my car the last time I was sleeping in it on the 200 Block of West Micheltorena. The first time, I had my head hanging out the window I heard breathing really close to me I opened an eye and there really close to my face was a K-9 Police dog looking at me. I didn't move the police officers had their backs to me and were both peering through bushes. I stayed in that position until they all had left. I'm glad the dog did not eat my face. The 2nd time I parked my car in the same spot and went to sleep I heard a noise and woke up in the middle of a drug deal. These really scary looking people were staring at me - I'm sure they were packing. I thought for sure I was going to get shot they thought I was a copper. I turned the key and burned rubber all the way down the street! Third time I was in the back parking lot of the offices at 16 West Mission sitting there engine running at 3 in the morning running the heater trying to get warm. I saw a subject in my review mirror sneaking up on me I dropped my baby in reverse and punched it. That SUCKA RAN! Running away, I saw the subject was totally in black and wearing a ski mask. He looked like a Ninja. It was a good thing I saw him I had about a grand in cash on me - I was looking for a place to live, it wasn't too long after that I moved into where I live today. Been here ever since - almost 14 years.
Sometimes I look at some of the scrap I put up with living here and get ungrateful, and then I remember being out there. I don't ever want to be without a home again. It really sucks being homeless, unless you're young drifting around camping. I liked it then. When you're, old it really sucks. I read one of Ken Williams' articles not so long ago and it mentioned an 84 year old man who passed away. He had been sleeping on a bench downtown he had too much pride to ask for help. What has our Country come to when we let our elderly live on the streets?
