I'm looking for local dermatologists who specialize in skin cancers. My attempts to locate such doctors has been thwarted by the fact that most dermos are more interested in Botox than Basal cells.

I just saw Dr. Logan at Sansum (Pesetas Lane) and he seemed more interested in skin cancers than Botox. (I didn't have any skin cancers but no doubt could use Botox to advantage, but he didn't mention it - nor did I.)

Dr. Leposovic at Sansum -- he's the one for skin cancers. I just talked with a friend yesterday who came through melanoma and another skin cancer (I think it was basal cell), he said Dr L is the guy. He's not interested in cosmetic procedures, just serious skin disorders.

I second Dr. Leposavic. Nice guy, very thorough. Has done a couple of biopsies on me. Took out a couple melanomas from my brother...probably saved his life.

I had Dr. Keith Llewellyn perform Mohs (microscopically controlled surgery) for skin cancer. Not every dermatologist is qualified to perform Mohs but it is one of the more effective treatments for skin cancer. Good luck!

Dr Hammond, and if you are referred to a surgeon for further skin cancer treatment, definitely see Dr. Kimberly Grafton, who specializes in melanoma. We had a wonderful experience with both of them.

Dr. Leposavic has treated me ever since he arrived in Santa Barbara. I have been having skin cancer treatments for over 30 years. Came from living on the beach in my 20's. Before the days of good sun creams.

Dr. Leposavic has plastic surgery training as well, so he leaves very neat, almost unnoticeable scars if he does need to remove something. He's very efficient.

I used Dr. Novatt when he was at Sansum and was very happy with what he did for me. My insurance (HMO) no longer covers him so I see Mark Logan and I'm very pleased with him as well. He's treated two basal cell carcinomas for me and numerous pre-cancers.

Dr. Leposavic's bedside manner is now wonderful, as well. His skills are awesome, and his understanding of a patient's special needs and considerations are great. Highly recommended. His office is located in the Cottage area Sansum clinic.

Dr. Gary Novatt is very thorough and extremely careful to not leave scars. He does an excellent job of following up with his patients and great for second opinions. I had a friend who was misdiagnosed (I know these things can happen)by one of the above mentioned doctors and thanks to Dr. Novatt she was properly treated.

Leposavic has removed three malignant melanomas from my body. He has my respect and recommendation as a direct and efficient surgeon. However the scars that remain after the surgery are hardly unnoticeable. Skin cancer surgery is not plastic surgery.

"Skin cancer surgery is not plastic surgery." So true, 036! I suffered a terrible post surgical infection after my melanoma removal. Please consider this when you decide on your path. Ask about rates/standards for infection control, consider a hospital instead of an office if the incision is large. Wish you luck and clean margins.

We love Dr. Ford (Sansum), who works with Dr. Leposavic. If Dr. Leposavic's bedside manner has improved, I will be pleased. I know he is a super surgeon and I wouldn't hold his cold manner against him. He took a melanoma off my husband and, as others noted, the scar is hardly visible.

Since skin cancer usually involves removal of a suspicious mole or lesion, avoid Novatt. People say he's great, but every time I've had something removed from him, my experience has been scarring. That's not necessary and I feel that a more experienced doctor who takes more time will yield better results. Leposavic or Ford would be better choices, in my experience.
