Lois Capps' Campaign on Abel Maldonado
updated: Feb 13, 2012, 3:01 PM

Source: Lois Capps' Office

Jeff Millman, Lois Capps' campaign spokesperson said: "With Maldonado's entry into the race, there will be a very competitive contest betweenTea Party leader Chris Mitchum and him as both failed to generate much support in the latest fundraising report. Regardless of who runs, Lois will stay focused on getting our economy fully restarted, standing up for families against powerful corporate interests, and making sure seniors get the benefits they have earned.

Choosing between Capps and Maldonado is like choosing between getting stabbed or shot. Pretty much the same for the Presidential candidates. You want a wolf or a wolf in sheep's clothing? Neither for me!

Once again, the top two candidates for the November ballot will be chosen through the open primary in June. With Chris Mitchum entering the race, it can only hurt Abel, but all he has to do is get more votes than Chris in the primary and it will be Abel vs. Capps in the general election this fall.

None of which she has any control over...

Let's see, she can vote for economic stimulus to support jobs, she can vote for mortgage reform for the people that were hurt by the actions of the banks, and she can make sure they don't cut Social Security or Medicare. So I believe she has some impact on these issues.

No matter- she probably has my vote for life for being one of the few people in Congress to vote against giving Bush Jr the power to invade Iraq. Too bad more of our politicians didn't find a spine sooner.

Let's see, she can vote for economic stimulus to support people who already rich and/or in bed with the Feds, she can vote for mortgage reform for the people who were too stupid to realize that they can't afford a McMansion on a janitor's salary. So I believe she has some impact on these issues.

No matter- she will never get my vote for being the unqualified joke of a representative and a product of the ribbon of shame.

I'm with 460 . Lois proved smarter than any any GOP Representative from California when she voted nay to Shrub's ill concieved crusade into Iraq. Funny how the IOU"s used to fund that boondoggle never seemed to bother our deficit hawks at the time.

Hey Gilbert-For your information, in 2003 Capps voted FOR a 78 billion dollar emergency package for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan! She's a joke.

@432 There's a big difference between voting FOR the war and voting for funding for a war that's already happening...

Mitchum and Maldonado are going to find themselves on the same scrap heap of GOP wannabees. They will be welcomed by the perennial loser Mike 'the joker" Stoker.

I was against the war but it was a done deal, to vote for Lois on a past action rather than the future is ridiculous especially since its unknown if she would have made the same vote if she hadn't been in the safest district in the US for a Democratic incumbent. The same people who say that vote was the deciding factor for them usually will vote for Senator Feinstein (who voted for the war) without a problem so their opinion is suspect at best. If there are things Lois is supporting and championing now and in the next session that you like vote for her.

Remember the good ol' day's when she first started. She wasn't going to run more than once. Makes her just like all the rest of the "guys" I was REALLY impressed when she said she voted for the health care program...WITHOUT reading it. ouch!
Why have she and Obama started to push so hard for all these programs AFTER they had majority.

Lois is worth millions, so what? That does not make her a bad person. I won't vote for her, that's for sure, but her having money is not a reason to vote against her. Teachers do well in this state. And, when she's no longer in congress, she will never ever ever ever never ever have to worry about money or health care. Talk about having more than your share of the cake.

Lois = 1%
Lois = I'm with the "Let's pass this law so we can see what's in it" gang and that's the way she rolls. Pass me my favorite Rubber Stamp Rubber Stamp Rubber Stamp....Rubber Stamp

Im just tired of professional politicians. Democrat and Republican. The system is starting to break down because of professional politicians. Our government was founded on the principles of service by its citizens. Those who choose to be professional politicians are ruining it all. Gerrymandered districts, PAC groups, fundraising, etc. It's bringing us down. Maldonado is a professional politician. Capps started out in citizen service, but has become a professional politician. Hannah Beth Jackson and Mike Stoker, there are two more.

How can we go back to the original intent of the system? Or is it too late?

Lois Capps is a do-nothing zero with no clout and no respect from her peers. She is a joke who has coasted in the past. Now she is worried about competition. I am sick of the republican crazies out there but Maldonado is a decent alternative - if he doesn't toe the line with the other republican crazies in Washington. I"m torn because I don't want to automatically elect Capps and I hate the Repbublicans. What to do? On principle I say get rid of Capps and take our chances on Maldonado - he is a decent guy who is not a zealot and not an idiot like Capps. She is so pathetic.

Lois Capps has been the biggest do-nothing representative in Congress since she first took over her late husband's office in a classic sympathy move. She is a perfect example of what happens when you appoint and elect office holders totally unqualified for the position they are in and are led around like a puppy by the their party minions. The net result is to be expected. ZERO!!

I agree with 432. I have lived where Maldonado was a councilman and a mayor, and he never did anything that would not favor his own interests. A treasured memory of him is from the opening of the pool at Santa Maria where he was supposed to cut a ribbon from a rowboat in the pool. He came in a suit and fancy dress shoes and fell in the pool trying to stand up in the boat. He then claimed he did it so he could be first in the pool. (swim team had been using it for weeks) LOL!! We all know how ineffective one term Capps is, so our choice is?

460 - Thank YOU. You said it all.

And for the rest of you negative people - how many hours have you volunteered to get your candidate elected......yes, I volunteered hundreds of hours in 2008. Better yet, do you buy ONLY American products in order to bring our jobs home? 50,000 factories have closed in the U S in the last ten years. What have you done to reverse this?

Anyone who claims Lois Capps is a do-nothing representative has clearly never bothered to look at her record. She is extremely active in her committee assignments, and both introduces and co-sponsors a significant amount of legislation. And if you write to her as a constituent, she always responds with a complete and well-thought out explanation of her policy positions.
