New Business Name
updated: Feb 07, 2012, 8:19 PM

By Edhat Subscriber

I am starting a new business (and following my passion) where I will be growing special varieties of Milkweeds that are native to our region, and also plants that will attract and feed bees, butterflies, beneficial insects and even hummingbirds.

I need a name for the business, implying wings, haven, hope, nurture, beauty, etc.

Everything I come up with sounds like an airshow squadron (Wings of Wonder) or an evangelical choir (Wings of Joy), or a rehab facility (SafeHavens) I will be growing a lot for monarch butterfly habitat restoration. Habitat for them and many other species is declining at 6000 acres per day worldwide due to development, herbicides and roadside eradication projects. If someone can help me pick the perfect name, I will reward the lucky winner with a beautiful plant of their choice, and my eternal gratitude..doesnt have to have wings in it, by the way. Just catchy and evocative of our beautiful winged ones. Thanks so Much!

I love the "pollen nation"comment -- well crafted. That and "mother's milkweed". Kudos and good luck to you in your new enterprise.

What we call our house: La Casa Mariposa, or simply Casa Mariposa. Maybe you're going to move into the place on the corner of State & Calle Laureles, with the bumbling bee on the Calle Laureles wall (across from the CVS parking lot), put there by former tenant Bee's Knees?

I heard somewhere that the Santa Barbara Beekeepers Association would love to help out in any way that could be helpful.
I also heard that they have been starting to hand out Pollinator Friendly seeds at their presentations, and plan to do so at the 2012 Earth Day event this year.

Please let them know if they can be of any assistance in your exciting new venture.

If I am not mistaken, you can contact Todd @ www.sbba.org

:p

I don't have a catchy name to contribute yet (there are already some great ideas here!), but my wife and I grow butterfly- and hummingbird-friendly plants, and we'll be thrilled to be among your first customers!

As poster- THANK YOU all for the wonderful and whimsical ideas. I can always count on my "invisible" Edhat friends! I will decide asap and let you know.To 254805- good for you and your ranch! Happy to discuss what I have learned.- Melissa @805-967-0805. Again, thanks for the ideas and good wishes- will take a while to get up and flying, but I have a 75 foot greenhouse and everything else I need (except I am looking for a few more nursery tables) I appreciate all who took the time and thought to reply! To 803- I ruled out "out of business", and "for lease", they just didnt quite have the poetic ring I am seeking, but thanks anyway.
