By Roger the Scanner Guy
Another Monday - I hope you all had a lovely weekend. I sure did; went for another bicycle ride on my tricycle. The weather has been wonderful. On Saturday, I rode up to Anacapa street, was walking toward Cota on the sidewalk encountered some very nice people who thanked me for moving out of their way with my bicycle. I felt like I was in old Santa Barbara for a minute there. A woman said "I love your T-Shirt! I love Edhat!" I was wearing my Edhat tee shirt underneath my tropical fish shirt. I told her I was Roger. I should not have done that because she made a sound like she didn't love Roger as much as she loved Edhat. I've been laughing about it ever since. I stopped at the Alano Club for a bottled water, and signed up for a membership. I haven't been a member there for many beers, and don't stop in that much but the Alano Club does a lot for the community. Besides the money I paid into the membership was going to go to my former doctor, somehow the Alano Club getting the money this month seemed more fitting.
I had a talk with an old friend David C. who had an unpleasant experience with panhandlers on State Street. He avoids State Street now. He was followed, basically stalked like prey as he strolled along with a young tough following behind attempting to intimidate him for money. David was more irritated than anything... I haven't been to State Street for a long time, as the weather gets warmer I will make my way up there people usually don't ask me for money though - probably because I'm huge. I really can't think of any otter reason I get hit up once in a while usually by people that know me. A kid hit me up in Rite Aid the other day for a quarter he did not have enough for aspirin and he was really sick poor kid I helped him out. That to me is different. I have heard many stories of people being intimidated for money and even attacked.
A commenter let me have it last week about defending the homeless because someone challenged them to a fight while aggressively panhandling them. I understand there is a group of young thugs out there that pulls this scrap I'm really not sure why the police don't run them outta town. When I was out there they gave me a couple rides to Goleta and told me to keep going unfortunately I was starting to go to AA about that time, in AA they tell you to "Keep coming back." I always got coffee and a donut at the meetings. Cops don't give out donuts and coffee.
I didn't sleep too well Saturday into Sunday after the bicycle ride the pain caught up with me. I got a couple hours at best then the nerve endings went crazy. I'm not going to give up my Weekend Bicycle rides - I'll be going same time next year. Me and Ballistic Belinda was hanging out the otter day. One of the neighbors walked by with his cell phone. Belinda says I know what he's doing, I know his type. "What's he doing?" I said "He's taking a picture of me with that camera." The Ballistic one says, "he thinks I'm hot I know his type" she says. "Whoa wait a minute he's 25 years old good looking always brings hot fashion model types home I don't think he wants to do it with an Old Maid Belinda." That was the wrong thing to say to Belinda - Boy did she get mad... I didn't know I could still run that quick.
Last year at this time I think I counted all of the 415 Domestic's during the Super Bowl - there were not many. This year, I BBQ'd and totally gorged myself full of food, missing most of the football game. What the Hay?
