Scanner Reports 1-23-12
updated: Jan 23, 2012, 7:00 AM

By Roger the Scanner Guy

Monday already, the weekend went kinda quick. In the LA Times on Sunday page A-9 At the bottom of the page was an article about several states proposing measures to start an Animal Abuse registry. This would be like Megan's Law that requires sex offenders to register. I would like to see this happen in California. There is a lot of this going on I for one would like to see more done about it. I heard two reports over the weekend of possible Animal Abuse. One guy walking his dogs near Victoria and State Streets was reported to be 242ing his dog, 242 is Assault. When he noticed that others were watching he ran away, last seen East on Victoria. He wasn't caught as far as I know maybe he ought to get some counseling before he ends up on a list.

Two neighbors arguing on the 3300 Block of Via Cortez bought out the UGLY in one when he threatened to kill his neighbor's cat. On Facebook over the weekend a local Santa Barbara County Councilman in the Dog House made reference to torturing a kitten on television. Not funny, not funny at all - especially considering the fact that the man was investigated by Animal Control for abusing a German Shepard in the past. Now we have someone breaking the wings of Pelicans here in our Sunny little town. I for one would like to know who these people are. They need to be exposed, jailed, neutered, or medicated 24/7(Neutered, was someone else's suggestion). I could say a few other things but I won't.

As far as CRIME in Santa Barbara it's just the usual all around. A robbery at gunpoint at a parking kiosk the 2nd I've heard but there has probably been more. Three guys jumping one guy in the Carrillo Underpass and of course running away while police were responding. Transients harassing customers between the Metro 4 theaters, The Habit, Parking Lot 10, and in front of Aaron Brothers...this is an ongoing thing. Also motel employees being harassed by transients on West Cabrillo near Castillo also reported as an ongoing problem. Three Hurrahs for the person who called 911 to report a Suspicious Subject on the 400 Block of East Victoria Saturday Morning, the subject was emptying out a wallet then pocketing the credit cards, and money. The witness called it in, SBPD blanketed the neighborhood. An alert Santa Barbara officer on the way to the call spotted the subject in the 1000 Block of East DLG. The subject had several pieces of other people's identification on him - it was a beautiful bust.

I'm wondering if the guy caught for those auto burglaries is the same person that has been breaking into cars in that area for a while... I hope he will be going a way for a while. Thank You to the SBPD for getting him off the streets.
