Scanner Reports 1-18-12
updated: Jan 18, 2012, 7:00 AM

By Roger the Scanner Guy

Wow it's all ready Wednesday, tomorrow it will be Thursday, the next day FRYday. I see we're back into the Barricade Issue. I think in the next 10 years there are going to be barricades all over Santa Barbara. It should be like that the way the city takes care of its sidewalks and roads. I hear public accidents all the time over the scanner. People tripping over curbs, potholes, a little crack in the sidewalk. You don't just smoke crack, sometimes it smokes you. It happens all over town too anything the city owns, maintains. I don't know how they determine what is a public accident and what is not. Maybe someone can enlighten us on the subject. I would think though a public accident would be something like walking into a hole that shouldn't be there, or that doesn't have barricades around it.

There is a great example for a barricade. A hole in the sidewalk that shouldn't be there. Of course the question is: What came first the hole, or the sidewalk? Or maybe the whole sidewalk...Sorry couldn't help it. I had a public accident once in the Milpas Underpants. I was walking with my girlfriend down Haley; we were auguring we either argued or had sax that was the whole relationship Boy that woman loved jazz! Anyway walking, Haley, sax...I wasn't looking where I was going, like now and I tripped into a hole in the sidewalk. I did some weird kinda fall, when I woke up I was hurting like hell. I felt like a total idiot. Here I was arguing with my girlfriend and Mr. Know it all not looking where he's going walks into a hole. People were out of their cars calling 911 and I was like no way! I'm fine blood all over my head. I had to get the hell outta there, and I did. I think I called someone that worked for the city later on and complained about it. A couple years later the hole was fixed.

Maybe the city does need barricades all over the place, with little blue lines painted at their base. It is really up to us, not them. Our actions can determine the decision of whether or not barricades are put up. Be careful, don't jump, and watch your dogs. Take personal responsibility, Save yourself, the taxpayers some money. But you know it will never work everyone will forget sooner than later. Barricades in 10 years and that is my opinion. As far as Public Accidents go I don't know how much responsibility the city takes if it is determined that a Public Accident is the cities fault. I do know that the police go out, file a report. (CSI) Shows up and does a report taking pictures etc, etc… Somehow, Some way it costs the taxpayers money. One would think if there were more repairs there would be fewer accidents. It would never be perfect but it could be improved.

Tomorrow will be 9 years since I've had a drink or in my case 2 cases of beer and too much medication during a suicide attempt. I talked myself out of the hospital my gal kept me out of jail. But I was really sick for days afterward. I'm not saying I'll never do it again. I'll just say I hope to Dog I never do it again.
