Any more info? Were the people killed, was it gang related? Was the officer shot?

My thoughts and well wishes to the officer and any innocent people involved. Can we leave the speculative racial stereotypes out of it, at least until we know if everyone is okay?

Really too bad, should have been planned out better. Anyone, especially cops, know that big -time dealers are usually heavily armed. I mean, they just found a Tech-9 on a guy in SM, with bullets that can penetrate armor. Most dealers, especially ones that use the product they sell are paranoid, have an artillery of weapons that rivals police, and are willing to go out in a shoot-out rather than serve life in prison. Should have used SWAT, came earlier in the morning, and have expected a shootout. Feel sorry for the cops injured and am glad it is something they will recover from. As for the dealers, no remorse for people who play the drug game and arm themselves, life in prison for the survivor, early grave for the dead.

Here is an updated (10:00) article from Santa Maria Times that stated members of SWAT was part of the initial operation. Per the article, "After a short vehicle pursuit, several suspects fled from an SUV, while the driver - the main target of the investigation - stayed with the vehicle and engaged officers in gunfire." It goes on to state that the suspect was fatally shot and two of the four officers involved were injured with non-life threatening injuries (leg and hand).

link.
My prayers go out to the involved officers for speedy recoveries.

I also wonder if the other involved suspects that fled on foot were caught.

239144: so you're okay with legalizing heroin sales or meth labs? There was no indication as to what drugs were involved in this raid....... a "narcotics suspect" could mean anything.

239144 - no, not at all. I'm referring to the New York Times report a couple of days ago about the DEA laundering millions of $ to the Mexican cartels. The increase in deaths at our borders is all due to this. It's mostly weed - the "preferred" drug at just about all US college campuses. Yes there are a lot of hard core meth users out there but weed is the player across the borders that I'm reefer-ing to.

Prime example as why cops tell you to stay in the car. Sound familiar?

239144: so once again, what does your editorializing have to do with this specific event in Santa Maria? How would have legalization "saved" this guy's life and kept the cops safer? You have no idea of the circumstances about his drug dealing involvement or criminal history. You're referring to pot smoking college kids and not hardened criminals with weapons. Your post was irrelevant to the event itself and simply a plug for legalizing weed.
