By Roger the Scanner Guy
This week went pretty quick. It's already FRYday. Every year about this time this guy shows up at my door and he asks me to be a Santa Claus at his Christmas Party. Every year I turn him down. He's an airline pilot. Last year he offered me tickets to Hawaii and cash. It's nothing personal; I'm just SNOT the Santa Claus type. But every year I get axed, this year someone axed me to be the Santa in a Holiday parade. I had a meltdown - no not really - just said "No Thanks" really quick. I actually think I was the last resort. I admit most of the time I'm jolly, I have a long white beard, hair, I'm a few pounds overweight, I look aHELLofalot like Santa, but I'm SNOT Santa Claus.
However, several years ago when Shakey was still the manager of Mikes Texaco at Cacique and Milpas, a little old lady who looked like a Smurf wandered away from her caregiver, came up to me and with childlike eyes, asked me if I was the real Santa Claus. I could tell she was totally serious. I thought she might have Alzheimer's disease or something. I told her that in fact I was Santa Claus. She got a tear in her eye and began to seriously thank me for the good life she had. Her husband, her children - the whole nine yards. She gave me a little hug, her caregiver eyeing me to death. The little old lady whispered Thank You once more and tiptoed away back to the vehicle she had come from. Several people including Shakey had witnessed this and everyone, including myself, was crying our friggin' eyes out. So I don't do the Santa Thing. OK? LEAVE ME ALONE!
So I went to Pet Co on the first and spent about 25 bucks on Fish Head. I got a heater, fishy food, the blue water stuff that calms them down but perks them up, and the water treatment drops, a little net. He's kinda on his side, but he gets up there a little I hope he pulls through. I'm holding onto him. Pooh Bear needs a pet Beta.
Boy that wind was howling early this morning. I thought our Pecan tree was coming down for a bit there. I wanted to climb inside Pooh Bear's house with him, but he wouldn't let me. A neighbor came running from the back saying his roof was going. That freaked me out. THANK DOG it turned out to be his porch roof which is made out of hard plastic. Still that wind howled a few branches came down. There were a lot of problems around town trees down, branches, wires, transformers burning, alarms going off all over the place, I even turd that a door was blown open at some business in town. The police officer that responded had to wait for the person "On call" for the business to show up. At first the alarm company could not find the representative for the business. That's a real pain for the fuzz - it keeps them from other responsibilities they have. If some of you have businesses out there and you have an alarm, make sure your alarm company has a number to call to get someone to show up to your business in case of emergency. You don't want the place left open unprotected after the police leave.
I heard a law enforcement agency talking about tearing down transient camps. I think it was in Goleta near the railroad tracks. I would be for leaving them alone, but I bet they are concerned about these warming fires that many transients light to stay warm or for cooking. Someone called in one as a brush fire this morning at Castillo and Haley. Later on I heard the fireman say something about destroying the camp because it was a large camp. As many transient calls I hear I bet at least 10 percent of our city's population is transient.
