Does anyone have suggestions of restaurants to go to on Thanksgiving? Our family
is thinking about it. There would be 2 children 7 and 9 years old! And of course
6 adults!

I enjoyed the Thanksgiving buffet at the Marriott, or some chain hotel in Buellton. Lots of choices, lots of families, and the food was great.

Check out the Santa Barbara restaurant guide. They have listed a whole lot of restaurants that will be open on Thanksgiving and serving traditional holiday dinner.

The Four Seasons Biltmore and Fess Parker's Doubletree are our family's favorites. They have buffets that have something for everyone in the family and they are beautifully presented.

Taco Bell off Milpas really puts out a great spread with some phenomenal hot sauce!

Well played 889. If they are booked. Kentucky Fried Chicken gets my vote. Chicken is so much like turkey that it really isn't much of a stretch to re-live that those pilgrim moments.

Whatever you pick, you should attempt to get reservations today. The better the place, the less likely to be holding space for your large group at this late date.

I'd say blend the two. Grab some tacos and hot sauce at Taco Bell, grab a bucket of chicken at KFC, and then head down to the Moreton Bay Fig Tree, and take in some great conversation of what the Occupy Wall Street Crowd is up to!

If cost is not a factor, for a delicious T-giving dinner in a memorable outdoor setting, dining in the garden setting at the Ranch House in Ojai can't be beat. We've done it twice with friends, and it's a special, special place.....

I think Zooks has a good suggestion - taking two young kiddies to lovely (but pricey) places like the Biltmore may require a rethink...maybe the younger ones can eat off your plate? Good luck.

If money is no object, the Biltmore really does have an awesome buffet. We brought a picky 8 year old there at Easter and found they even have a kids' buffet table with PBJ sandwiches, Mac and Cheese, PIzza and such. If money IS a factor, Costco and Trader Joes each have a lot of excellent prepared foods you can just heat up at home for an excellent meal with little to no strain on the chef. I've always been curious about Home Town Buffet on Thanksgiving but never been there.

My family used to do T-Day at the former Holiday Inn (don't recall what the name is now) in Ventura, the one with the revolving restaurant at the top. Fun for kids, great for a large group.

Believe it or not, Cafe Marmalade does a nice and affordable dinner and is kid friendly. We took my MIL last year, and it was perfect...well, not as perfect as home, but worked out just fine.

957 We stayed there this last weekend. It's now a Crowne Plaza Hotel. It was nice enough (but the guest rooms are incredibly small). However, I did notice that they had posters up touting their thanksgiving dinner menu and it sounded good. Maybe worth a try? They are right on the beach and have a great view. It's almost as north in Ventura as you can get, so not a bad drive.

Stay home and cook dinner. Too many people are forced to work on Thansgiving Day, preventing them from spending the day with their own families, so that people that don't want to cook don't have to. It's not that hard. And if you absolutely can't do it, buy a premade meal and pick it up the day before.

Part of the tradition is the preparation. The chatting in the kitchen, the kids sneaking through and nabbing the deviled eggs, watch Aunt Alma get sauced a little early. Traditions lost. That being said with all those kids and large group, please don't end up where I am going!

Some of us no longer have space or kitchens equipped for large groups. If I do not take the lead everyone goes their own ways. This is the one time a year I can get most together. A restraunt is expensive and not homey, but is the only alternative for some of us.

063, has it occured to you that a question was asked here that has nothing to do with your answer. Could there be a reason why someone does not want to cook? How on earth could one family or person going out to dinner change the fact that a restaurant has decided to open for Thanksgiving in the first place? Please, save the judgement for your own life not someone who comes here to ask a valid question. OP, plenty of places are open on T-day, most of the traditional holiday dinners can be found at places like local hotels, though. Some people like to buck tradition and go for Chinese, and there are usually plenty of Chinese places open around town.

I asked the original question. We are just thinking about it and I needed some suggestions. I've looked online at several places suggested and they did not stipulate that they had a buffet. I do like the idea of a kid buffet!!

Home Town Buffet will have something for everybody. I am sure it will be crowded though. It has always had a long line whenever we went there.

Sizzler has turkey dinners, why not go to a meat place where they know meats & also have easy buffet! Easy for a large group!
