Our friend's husband came from Masadonia and they used the law firm Stone and Grzegorek (213) 627-8997 http://www.lskglaw.com/home.php Since our case was an appeal they referred us to Madhu Sharma but she has since joined their practice. We are still working on the appeal (original case my in-laws were scammed) but we are hopeful. Not sure what your situation is but I highly recommend their office, even though they are in LA. Abbe Kingston 805-963-9585 was recommended to us by a friend that worked in the courts. Unfortunately our case was too complex and so we had to go to LA. I don't know much about him but she said he was trustworthy. Be VERY cautious with who you end up going with, there are so many scammers posing as immigration attorneys. They may also be an attorney but they know you are desperate and so they will promise you all kinds of things and then just suck your wallet dry. Good luck!

It would be helpful if you can give a few background facts. For example, is the person in question appealing a visa that was rejected or is workplace status in question, or is this a husband/wife or other family-related situation? I know a few different immigration attorneys (in LA, SJ and SFO), all very reputable but their experience varies so I would recommend maybe one over another based on the facts of your case. Also I would not put too much salt in finding someone "local." If the situation is important, then you'd want someone experienced, who regularly works with the INS and the courts on these issues -- and by and large you're going to find those attorneys in major metro areas where there are employers dealing with work visa issues and other immigration law matters on a regular basis -- not here in the sticks (legally speaking).

Arnold S. Jaffe To view a half-hour interview with him, do a Google search on "Just Between Us!" (a Channel 17 television program with co-hosts William and Lorrie Hull Smithers); click on "Directory of TV Interviews" page and select Mr. Jaffe. This interview was a finalist in the Alliance for Community Media's 2011 WAVE Award (Western Access Video Excellence).

An inactive member of the CA bar who did study immigration law, I was going to reply exactly as 82P and 609. Make sure whoever you hire has not only studied immigration law but has worked recently in the area of immigration, that is, with the INS and the courts. It's a highly specialized field of law and most attorneys have no experience with it. You could call the SB Legal Referral Service, linked here (note the comments) and be sure and ask any attorney referenced about his/her current immigration work.

Arno Jaffe helped my wife get out of Cuba. When it looked like all the doors were closed, Arno came to the rescue. We are greatful for his knowledge and expertise in opening the gates for us. Teriana and Chris
