I am looking for a place to play ping pong(table tennis) in Santa Barbara.
I've scoured the web and it seems that no such club, group or league
exists. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Someone needs to open a Spin in Santa Barbara. It's a great place to play. Anyone willing? Would it be viable here? I'd be a regular. Here's a link to the one in NY. link

Sue, Spin looks very cool. I may have to try it out when I go to NYC to visit the son in late October. He and I played all through his high school days on our patio May - Dec. and had a blast. Oh, I rarely won.

I head to Costco and set the table up in the back isle by the bikes and golf clubs. Allthough the new paddles are included with the table set, I usually bring my own. My buddy and I walk in, set up the table and put in a few games. Most times we head over to the food ilses and take in some freebe's there too. We go back to the table for 6 or 7 games and "do it again". Lotta people appreciate the entertainment value of a couple of competitive matches and personally I think we help the store sell a few tables. We haven't been kicked out yet. Plus we are burning some serious calories which helps burn off all the samples we are pounding. Hope to this helps, and hope to see you there! You might try the same thing at Big Five.

Is ping-pong the new dodgeball (or was it kickball)?

Thanks Everyone. I will try the Carrillo Rec Center. Sue, SPIN looks like just the sort of thing SB would enjoy. I'd be a regular too. 877- Next time I am out at Costco I'll stop by in the back and see if I can join you.

Carrillo Rec Center and the Neighborhood are the only two places I know of. On another note, Break Time in Goleta is the only place in town now with a shuffleboard table...they just got it a few months ago.

Awesome, 877. I'll bet your favorite days for the Costco tourney are Saturdays due to the incredible number of free samples being offered. I'm sure that alone fuels some very competitive play. =)

They have ping pong in the locked psychiatric unit of Cottage Hospital. It was quite fun having a game now and then in there.

At Pelican Park in Isla Vista, on the ocean side of the 6500 block, just past the dead end on El Embarcadero, is a marble ping pong table with an artistic steel net and it is outdoors, rarely used, and a lot of fun to play on, if the powers that be . have not torn it out yet.

tsktsk 904. Ping pong, otherwise known as table tennis, is a world wide sport and in competitions thrilling to watch.

You can play at the rec center at UCSB, or you can do ping pong intramurals at the rec center as well. But you'll have to purchase a non-student membership, which is $120 for a quarter ($40 a month). It's well worth it for all the other amenities you get (gym, swimming pool, bball courts, rock climbing wall, indoor hockey, ect). Most dorms at UCSB also have ping pong tables, and often times you can just walk in and start playing.

At the Page Youth Center, Tuesday and Thursday mornings, 10:00-11:30, only $2 per day. It's mostly older women.

You could always head out to IV any night of the week. Probably won't need your paddle, but be sure to bring a red cup(s) and extra balls.

There are ping pong tables at The Tennis Club of Santa Barbara and they have occasional tournaments. Membership is expensive but I think you can play in the tournaments without being a member.
