AeroBed
updated: Sep 21, 2011, 6:45 AM
We want to buy a full/double sized air bed e.g AeroBed, etc.for guest use over a period of 5 to 6 nights at a stretch.
We desire something that will hold up without developing a leak early on and will also provide good comfort.
After reading a few reviews, none seem fantastic. Does anybody have a recommendation of brand, type & where to get one?

I have an AeroBed I got at Bed Bath & Beyond that seems to work great. It has a built in electric pump. My guests have said it's very comfortable.

I would stop by the Ventura river bottom by the RV park. Go in there in the day when the homeless are scrounging for stuff behind the big box stores in Oxnard. You can pick up some good slightly used stuff. Sometimes you can acutally get your own stuff back. I saw some AeroBeds down there last week. Of course you have to clean them but wow talk about getting your money's worth. One time I actually saw my ex-mother-in-law down there on a king sized sealy posture pedic. Gave me a little extra joy to boot her off the mattress and strap it on the top of my truck. Gotta a nice matching set of lava lamps and a cool 8 track of the partridge familly. Hope this helps.

My husband and I have slept on an Aerobed several times and have found it to be very comfortable and convenient. The one with the pump built in inflates and deflates fast. We have also tried the taller airbed (double height) - a Coleman, I believe - and it was not worth it. It lost air in the middle of the night and we turned into an airbed taco. And after only a few more uses, it sprung a major leak and was unusable.

i bought the double high queen one from Costco and i love it. i have been using it for about two months straight now because i am saving up for a nice real bed. I just moved here, so i tossed my old bed before the move. I thought this would make a great substitute until i can get a new one. i only have to turn the pump on once a week (seriously!) and it holds air great. and since it's from Costco, if ANYTHING happens to it, I can just return it and get a full refund. definitely got my money's worth and then some (it was about $130).

I got one and hated it. The air in the bed is always cooler than the top of the bed from body heat, and it kept me awake all night to be chilled.

# 215962: Why would you post something completely sarcastic, mean-spirited and not helpful in the least? When you do purchase an air mattress, be sure to get one that has the electric motor attachment. They are so easy to use!

We got one at Bed Bath and Beyond. We've had it for years. It seems fine, although we don't use it much anymore. It is an AeroBed. Whatever brand you buy make sure to check the weight limit. Our original one had a 400 pound limit. By the time the dog joined us on the bed we were over the limit (that's one big dog, right? ;-). Any way the one we have now is a 600# limit so hopefully we'll never exceed that. Make sure to check the limit.

I've had Aerobeds over the years and they are wonderful in terms of keeping their air and filling/emptying quickly. I had a single I'd take camping, it got two holes after a few years (punctures) that I patched with the included patch and they remained strong. For occasional use they are terrific. If you keep the bed in a room on carpet for an extended time, lift it once in awhile or lean it up against a wall during the day. We had one inflated in a room for a few weeks and the plastic bed made condensation that dampened the carpet underneath. Smelly carpet. And ditto about feeling cool on top, as the air in the bed itself isn't heated except by the ambient air and the floor. Usually I use a sleeping bag so I have "warmth" and insulation under me as well as over. Bed Bath & Beyond to purchase. We attempted a Coleman brand for camping years ago, it's pump was awful and it was pierced easily.

I have a Coleman, it's a few years old, and goes camping with us. It's been great. It's not one of the weird double height ones. There's really no need for one of those - waste of money. 052P: Definitely NOT funny. I didn't think it was mean-spirited like 009, but just a really poor attempt at humor (that failed. miserably.). I'd take an air bed over a futon any day. I'm guessing 098 just had one that wasn't any good.

I found that by not inflating ours to the max made it more comfortable.

We've used various air beds for years (at home for guests & camping), but we also use a foam egg crate topper because the beds are cold. I fold & roll this up in between usage. At home, I also use a mattress pad. When camping, a sleeping bag. Since we don't have electricity when camping, we don't use an aerobed, just a normal full size air bed. (The full size fits in most tents & in small guest rooms. The queen is too big. Full works for 1 or 2 people just fine.)

I did a huge amount of research and reading user reviews before I got my guest bed air mattress two years ago. I wouldn't normally shop at Wal-Mart, but the price differential and high reviews sold me. It was a queen sized 16" high sueded top for $59. The electric pump is built in. It's been used by several guests as well as by me when I moved and had to wait for my bed to arrive, and everyone has commented on the comfort. At one point, I had to borrow someone's AeroBed to supplement what I had available for guests, and the person who got the AeroBed was so uncomfortable that he couldn't wait for the person using the WalMart bed to leave. Huge difference in comfort.

I agree with those that posted the Aerobed at Costco. It's an airbed, what more can you expect? However, throw some sheets and a down comforter on it, and I don't think it is that bad. It is a double, so a great height, and the auto inflate/deflate pump is very helpful! Besides, if you're anything like me, I like guests, but after 5-6 days, I am definitely ready for my home back. P.s. Whenever my inlaws come, they take our bedroom and my husband and I share the Aerobed (that's a post for another day), so I have personal experience staying on it!
