Where is the best place to eat before a SB Bowl show on Milpas besides Super-Rica?

El Bajio is the best after Super-Rica. If you're brave, try a tongue taco. They taste a bit like steak. Cesar's is the place to go if you like ceviche.

We love Los Agaves for Mexican food; they are on the Corner of Cota and Milpas or Shang Hai if you like Chinese and they are next to the convenience store on Canon Perdido and Milpas.

Altamiranos on 422 N. Milpas St if you are looking for Mexican - They are the best BEFORE Super Rica (I'm hiding my identity because super rica fans are fanatic! For the record I also find In N' Out Burger to be an average burger at best.) Saigon Vietnamese is great but service can be sketchy. Enjoy the show!

Los Agaves for mexican, they have an amazing seafood burritio; or Shang Hai for the best chinese in town, i recommend the vegetarian soy orange chicken or the garlic pork with green beans and the mushroom fried brown rice with curry!!! Ok now i'm hungry for Shang Hai and they are closed on Tuesdays, DRAT!!! Enjoy!

Have to agree with Los Agaves, my husband also says the seafood at Ceasar's is pretty good. It's farther down Milpas but we really like Presto Pasta for cheap Italian- the chicken parmesean with fettucinni alfredo.

Super Rica! Julia Child's favoritest place ever! Amazing. They make the tortillas right there, where else does that? The place looks kind of divey, but trust me you won't get stabbed. Super authentic as they don't even put cheese and sour cream on the tacos, they are soft which is kind of weird but so good. I bring my own real silverware and plates as they serve on paper plates (totally ewww) Other than that it's the best place ever, just like it says on Yelp. People drive ALL the way from LA to eat there, so that has to mean something. Summer yummo, delish! Foodie heaven.

Wow. All my years of touting El Bajio on Edhat are finally paying off. People have listened and have seen the light. 213825 is right on....El Bajio has the BEST chiles rellenos in Santa Barbara. At $13 they are not cheap, but definitely worth it. Call ahead to make sure they haven't run out. There is nothing worse than spending 10 minutes finding a parking spot, just to find out there are no more rellenos left. Super-Rica is very close to the worst Mexican food in SB. If you gave it away for free I still wouldn't stand in line (with all the other white people) to eat it.

Sorry, I've been living on Milpas for 11 years now and have watched El Bajio's quality sink lower and lower while their prices rise. I don't bother anymore. La Colmena is the place to eat on Milpas...if you haven't tried them, you are missing out on the best food on the eastside.

La Super Rica is good if you get certain things, the tortillas a really, really good but it's sometimes hit and miss. During busy times, they almost seem to slow down. I've eaten there a lot and never gotten sick, but that can happen anyplace if you're unlucky. Altamiranos is a very good suggestiong, but Los Agaves is totally, completely overrated. It's tasteless and bland and they use really weird pre-perpared sauces, as someone already mentioned.

Well for one thing, she was internationally known as a top culinary expert for years in this country. Are you saying that white, overweight people don't know their mexican food? Cause if so, then there's a lot of us in town whose word you shouldn't be taking, either......what you're saying makes no sense. And she wasn't French either, so how on earth would that make it more understandable to you if she recommended a French place?

El Bajio is generally quite tasty and friendly (but some other post was right that their prices have gone up a lot), although I feel their quality is still good. Los Agaves is delish, and sit-down style. I find Super Rica to be the McDonalds of mexican food, i.e. "supersize me!" Very big, but not particularly tasty or complex in flavor...

Super rica is the Best. I only wish more people thought like some of the people above. It is always so crowded. There has never been a place like Super Rica. And when Isidoro leaves and decides to quit there will never ever be a place like it again.

By all means, Super Rica, so you can sit amongst those who rave about it purely because Julia Child touted it twenty years ago, arrive with their own plates and silverware in hand, and find soft tacos to be odd.

214061 - That's funny....I have found just the opposite, that the portions at Super-Rica are on the small side. 213934P - Ummm, we know Julia Child wasn't France, but her entire career was built on making French cuisine, not Mexican. I'd hazard to guess Child never even tasted Mexican food until her 50's or 60's. 213907P/214141P - Wow. Altamiranos?? Really??? Hands-down the worst Mexican food on Milpas (and in Old Town Goleta). 213825 - One of the reasons El Bajio's chiles rellenos are so good is their use of real Mexican cheese. So many restaurants use gooey, runny, Jack cheese (gag!!) or the like and not traditional Mexican cheeses like Oaxaca, Manchego and/or Chihuahua Cheese. It's not like there aren't 50 Mexican markets around where you can find Mexican cheese. Another reason they are so good is that they are spicier than anyone elses rellenos.
