VW Mechanic
updated: Sep 07, 2011, 10:37 AM

I'd love to ask for referrals to a local (SB ok, Goleta preferred) VW mechanic. I'm not as pleased with the work done on my Passat at the dealership as I used to be.

I started taking my 99 passat to Top Shop Automotive (Patterson/Hollister) when I got tired of the dealer. I don't know how it compares to any place else but Willie is pretty experienced on VWs

When I had a VW bug many years ago, I took it to Klaus Braun on outer State Street near Modoc. He was great. I believe he is still there.

What about a classic VW repair shop in town??? I have a few early 60's VDubs but have never been able to find a place. Only place that I knew of was Chuck's VW off Fairview but he shut down a few years back.....

Cory Motors. And if your Passat is anything like mine, you have my extreme condolences!!! Horrible, horrible car. However, Cory Motors manages to keep the evil thing on the road for me, because they are awesome!

Another shout out for Top Shop. A VW owner referred me there. They've been taking care of my Toyotas since. Very nice and competent and honest.

This is one of the reasons I decided to sell my Passat. I was unhappy with the dealer. I wish they would expand or hire somebody else, the follow up is pretty bad and it takes forever to get anything done.

Seth at Mastercraft Motors is one of just a handful of VW mechanics in the US with his specific, intense certification. They're pretty nice, too.

Just a follow up to let everyone know that I went with Top Shop - finally got in today (my delays, not theirs). LOVE THEM! Very satisfied with their work, very professional and friendly, explained everything, and we have a plan to get my car back in tip top shape in a reasonable amount of time, taking it one step at a time (which my wallet will surely appreciate). Prices seemed reasonable and surely less than the "stealership"! : )

Thanks again for the suggestions!
