I order specialty Spanish ingredients online. Google "La Tienda" for the website.

Please clarify- Are you wanting to find food items that are uncooked such as at a market or that are cooked and ready to eat? Also Spanish as in Spain or Spanish as in Hispanic (Mexican or any other Latin food)?

There are only two ingredients that you will have a problem obtaining: jamón Ibérico and percebes. You may need to travel to Spain. Everything else in Spanish cuisine is easily obtainable: garlic, olive oil, rice, peppers (mild to hot), eggs, potatoes, tomatoes, onions and herbs.

The truly groovy place is Reyes Market in Carp...Great food supplies, even hand made tortilla presses and the likes. Their, eat there or take away food, is just the best too, and fairly priced. It is clean and super friendly

Jamon serano can be ordered whole or purchased sliced at the Village Wine and Cheese store in the Montecito upper village. It is the real deal.

Metropulos market/deli (Yanonali St) has ingredients for Spanish paella, is that the type of thing you are looking for?

No specific Spanish food stores in town. You can try the following link for imported specialty items, even jamón Ibérico. http://www.spanishtable.com/

Spanish foods such as Paella are good :-) I am not aware of an authentic Spanish restaurant in Santa Barbara. Perhaps in Los Angeles. Mexican cuisine is good too. I believe this was created by the gradual combining of the best of the Indian and Spanish cusines over two centuries ago .

Pennywise market on the east side, sells one ounce tins of spanish saffron at a good price. One would have to be crazy to by it in tiny, overpriced packages.

Does anyone know where in town I can get dried, lime treated hominy for posole? That canned stuff is gummy and if you use dried hominy it sucks up the flavor from the chile power when it pops open during cooking and tastes much better.

@SHOREBIRD Sorry to break it to you but good luck finding that in SB COUNTY. When it comes to REAL Mexican food SB/Goleta lack big time. I have yet to find an authentic Mexican food restaurant in the area. I have not found one single place that sells Huazmole de espinazo. On the bright side SB sure does have some yummy burritos!!

After eating tapas in Spain, Alcazar on the mesa is awful, it is just lukewarm mexican. The tapas at the cafe in the museum is about as close as we have gotten to our Barcelona experience, and some good items out at Agave in Montecito. Does anyone know where to find dried mole seasoning mix? La Victoria use to supply it, all I can ever find is liquid and it is not as good.

Saffron can be found at Trader Joe's at a good price (main flavoring ingredient for Paella, Spain's national dish). They have a decent seafood blend in the freezer section, which will do in a pinch.

Fusano Olive Oil at the Farmers Market on Saturday is pressed from Manzillo olives grown on their farm in Paso Robles. It is the real Spanish style and wonderful! There are many other olives oils there but they are not the Spanish style. The cheese store on Santa Barbara St has the most complete selection of Manchego with several types depending on the number of years it is aged. Good, fresh Spices really require a drive to Los Angeles. Go to 'Spice Station', in the area called Silverlake. 3819 W Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90026(323) 660-2565 Jamon from Whole Foods, SB is good but if you drive to LA for spices go to McCalls Meats in Los Feliz, 2117 Hillhurst Avenue Los Angeles, CA 90027.(323) 667-0674 Amazingly good and close to the spices. Enjoy!!
