Petros in Los Olivos is your best bet. They should be opening in the not so distant future in SB as well in the former home of Cafe Buenos Aires.

Yanni's at Mackenzie Market (upper State St.) has great gyros and sandwiches. They have Greek wine and treats in the market. We also like Greek at the Harbor in Ventura, where they do Greek dancing on the weekends.

Good question. Since the Greek deli on lower state closed a while back I've been missing their gyros. Anyone been to this place? Are they any good? link

Yanni's @ Mackenzie market is AMAZING. Their meats and Greek salads and so tasty! My mouth is watering right now just thinking about it. But if you can drive up and want to have a sit-down Petro's is delicious as well, I recommend enjoying an early dinner outside on the patio.

Petros has great food and drinks. Classy, yet comfortable. Candles on the wall, fireplace, Ambiance, beautiful patio and flowers. Yes, and you can wear that something special that's been hanging on the hanger in your closet forgotten and bring your camera for some fun pictures. Yanni's has great food too. Very small . Fun to sit and chat with the owners. Sort of a cross between a gas station and a cafe and you might not even notice it as you drive by, but if you stop for lunch you will be glad that you did. The Greek at Ventura Harbor. Very fun and lively. Lots of birthdays are celebrated here! Not to mention great food and a good menu, lots of yummy food to choose from. If you go there feeling sad, you will leave feeling lots better! If you just want to melt into the crowd, you can, or if you want to be the Star of the Night, you can. Then take a break and wander outside and look at the boats.

The gyros at Metropulos are excellent, but they only serve them on Fridays and Saturdays.

Just have to mention. We miss our friend Phoebe, and George at Santa Barbara's Plaka. Remember the old days? Wish that The Plaka was still there! I remember the time George was doing his famous Table Dance. He danced over to our table, picked up the table with his teeth, and danced away with it, our dinner and wine glasses twirling and spinning round and round. George danced back with the table. Our dinners were a little colder; the wine was still in the glasses, and I was still grinning, laughing and holding my fork in the air.

Petros will definitely be opening in Santa Barbara, a friend of mine is the architect (he also designed the Los Olivos location in the Fess Parker Inn and the Manhattan Beach locale.) The original Petros is still operating in Manhattan Beach.

The amusing thing about Taverna Tony is all the pretentious people who hang out. Or maybe they're actually rich. They wear Gucci and drive Bentleys and the like. It's a little bit pricey, but no worse than many SB restaurants.

Did anyone take Greek dancing lessons at the Plaka on Tuesday nights (1970's)? Mike Pahos who worked for the SB County by day and taught Greek dancing at the Plaka by night was a great guy and a kind and patient teacher. I have fond memories and still remember some of the steps...

On drives down the coast we look forward to stopping at Taverna Tonys in Malibu. Turn at Cross St. The mixed Greek platter there is enough for two and gives you a delicious taste of everything you'd want.

I thought Yanni's was too expensive -- and gyros not nearly as good as I used to get in Pittsburgh for $5. Look forward to trying Greek Cafe.

Went down to The Greek at Ventura Harbor recently expecting to get the sampler platter that's we liked. The new menu is a big bust for anyone expecting Greek food. No sampler platter, more generic items. Big disappointment.
