Group Bike Rides
updated: Aug 23, 2011, 3:25 PM
Looking for a non-competitive bike club/group for 30-50 mile rides @ ~14-18 Avg MPH. Does such a beast exist in this community? Does Goleta Valley Cycle Club do any organized/club rides? Any recommendations would be appreciated!

The Rotary ride that leaves from the Dolphins on Saturdays at 8 goes at about that pace, out to Carpinteria and back. (Not to be confused with the super fast competitive group that leaves from same place, same time.)

Unfortunately, cycling is one of those pastimes that usually brings along ego for the ride. You will be judged by others depending on your knowledge of bicycles, etiquette and the type you own and ride. It is best to find a friend or two and ride with them than to try and ride with a group that you don't know.
On the other hand, everyone is welcomed at Bike Moves but that really isn't a ride.

Come up to the bike-perfect Santa Ynez Valley! The SYVCC is your club. There are many weekly rides of all levels from slow/recreational/social to hammer fest aka Testosterone Express/bragging rights-type rides and everything in between. You do not need to be a member to do these rides! We have many locals & visitors from all over the world that ride on all the group rides. Call Corey or Sam at Dr.J's Bike Shop in Solvang @ 688-6263.

The SB Tri club has 2 rides every Saturday morning. The 7am ride is the hard core one, and the 8:30 is the beginner/low-key/no-drop ride. It's quite nice, I highly recommend it. You do not have to be a member to come along, but you can email SBTriclub (at) yahoo (dot) com if you want to ask more questions! Ride meets at East Beach. Hope you have fun! (Oh, and by the way this weekend there is no ride due to the Santa Barbara Triathlon...)

Wow, thanks for the responses! Looking forward to trying these out. I ride down to do the Goob Loop on the weekends and always see SB Tri jerseys (passing me). Thanks again...

The Goleta Valley Cycling Club is a good bet. Go to Bicycle Bob's on Hitchcock Way to connect with them.

As is clear from other posts, 207271 is simply incorrect ... there are numerous friendly group rides.

I see a lot of that ego stuff out there but hopefully 513 is correct! I have no friends that ride bikes and I'm a bit older(40) and rounder(REALLY big) than many of the cyclists out there...so it's difficult to find a good pairing. I'm looking forward to trying out these suggestions!!!
